"Don't know. Never had one"
-- D. Royal-Mack Brown how to coach a team after a losing season
Chris Fowler of Sports Illustrated said in an interview today, Tim told him he can play for another 2--3 years.
More rings and more final appearances along with a host of other accolades. This award goes to Kobe Bryant.
Only in the basketball "court" arena. Duncan is hands above Bryant in class and in citizenship.

Who cares about class and citizenship? We're talking about basketball. Kobe hands down. Hell, I'm a good guy. Not like that's a rare feat.
God i hate Kobe, but the man is unstoppable. Gotta give credit where credit is due.
"I don't hate you, I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence."
When all is said and done.............Duncan will have more NBA Championship than Bryant. In addition as you pointed out Duncan and Bryant are not on the same planet when it comes to the things that really matter................In a game of one on one Kolby will win vs Duncan. In the game of life its not close.

"Leadership is wisdom, courage and great carelessness of self"
Not surprised at the downvote but the truth is the truth. If Duncan wins this year then it becomes arguable. And I could careless about an athletes personal life.
Kobe would agree with you and Duncan wouldn't care what you (or anyone else) thought either way. Pretty much sums up the difference.
I agree about their personal lives, unless it's putting kids, animals, or the elderly in danger. Other than that, i couldn't give two sh**s what they do in their personal time, and that includes adultery. What they do on the court/field is what should be considered.
Thanks for a great article about Tim but Kobe Bryant is the best player of his generation and it's not close. Kobe may be an ass to some but it's undeniable what he has done.
It's not arguable even if the Spurs win it this year. Tim Duncan is a top 15 player all time imo. Kobe is top 5 imo.
That is the reason you know little about sports. Check the win loss records of all sports franchises or college teams. Character counts................there is a reason the Spurs and Patriots are the 2 best franchises over the past 10-15 years. They like college graduates (or good students) and the management puts up with zero BS. There is a reason Duke and UNC are model programs........they have players who are class acts. I don't know how much you know about the history of the NBA but there was always a debate who was better Bill Russell or Wilt. Wilt was the better individual player but Russell was the guy you wanted to build your team around. Its the difference between having class and no class.
For me I don't like to have to take a shower after watching my team play.........I am sorry others don't care about important things. I had a baseball coach in HS who used to say not everybody can run a 4.5 or hit the ball 400 ft but everybody can back up a play............everybody can hustle on every play............have a good attitude..........be a good teammate............do whats right (Key here don't fool around on your wife and rape women)
Is KB one of the best in the NBA.......yes! Is he a player to start a franchise..........No! You build organizations around Duncan and players (with character) like KD..........not KB.

Many do. Why fans and the community love Spurs players, Rangers, Nolie, Tom Landry. Class, Citizenship. Something that is sometimes severely lacking in the US society.
I couldn't care less. Michael Jordan was a gambling, womanizing, asshole. But the greatest of all time. These are regular people. Not everyone is gonna be a saint. It's a slice of society. The media and public just like to demonize those that don't fit into their way of living. Look, this isn't good versus evil. It's basketball. Try being a little objective sometimes. If you want to make heroes and villians, go watch the WWE. But let sports be sports. There's good guys and there's assholes. Just like in every part of life.

Do you really believe one of the most famous NBA players of all time had to "rape" a hotel worker lol?. Give me a break.
Haters believe it but anyone with common sense or who actually followed the case knows what it was.
I love the passion but the Lakers and Steelers have been just as successful the last 10-15 years as the Spurs and Patriots and I don't think you would say they are led by "character" people (Kobe, Roethlisberger, Harrison). The reason that all four of these franchises have been successful are do to great coaching, committed organizations and great players.
The notion that the Patriots and Spurs are somehow about it all is complete nonsense because the both organizations have brought on board many players that are considered to be bad "character" people in the last few years (both Jacksons, Moss, Haynesworth, Harrison) and only got rid of them when their production didn't exceed their off field distractions like every other professional team.
If Boston had the choice to pick between Wilt or Russell they would have picked Wilt. They built around Russell because they already had him and the Sixers would never trade Wilt to them so that had nothing to do with character.
Your point about not building around Kobe is nonsense. I wonder how many organizations would sell their souls to have drafted/acquired a player that has brought them 5 titles and 7 final appearances. I guess then you must not think that MJ, Magic, Bird, and numerous others should have been built around because they have done the same things that Kobe has done and in some cases worse. To hammer my point home I guess Tom Brady and Tony Parker are bad "characters" because Brady had a child out of wedlock and Tony Parker cheated on his wife with a teammates women no less.
Here's a list of the biggest winners (NBA and NFL) in the last 10-15 years and you tell me who are guys you think are good "characters".
Kobe- 5 titles
Duncan- 4 titles
Shaq- 4 titles
Brady- 3 titles
Roethlisberger- 2 titles
No organization is perfect and there was only one human being that was perfect. There are exceptions to every situation.
The Patriots are the most successful NFL team in the last 12 years..........they are/were built around Tom Brady, Tedy Bruschi, Deion Branch, Matt Light,Mike Vrabel. The Steelers are a great franchise also because the vast majority of players and coaches are class acts.
The Spurs were built around David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Avery Johnson, Manu Ginobili etc. You can take 1 or 2 bad actors if the leaders and majority of the team are good character people. You don't build around bad characters and have the attitude "just win baby". Al Davis and Jerry Jones have shown us that doesn't work. The Lakers success is the exception not the rule.
As usual you missed the point completely..................
How are the Patriots even in the discussion of good character when the organization was cheating?
I agree with the character aspects! We can only truly weigh stats! And anyone who followed the KOBE case knows that he didn't rape that girl! Kobe and Duncan, we are all lucky to have gotten to watch them play! They both have done it their way! I love love love TIMMY though! Kobe is most definitely top 5! But Barkley calls Timmy the greatest power forward to ever play the game! Shaq refers to him as "Mr. Duncan" and has for years! That's high praise from two guys who's stats and time in the league puts them head and shoulders above most! My point being that they don't owe anyone any compliments!
Had to? No. Did? The fact the question is even asked speaks for itself.

No one on this board said Kobe was not a great individual talent. He is ...............
Yes I followed the story and Kobe rapped the girl. People need to understand athletes like politicans like power. They never hear the word "no". Its not about sex but about power. That is why I think Kobe is guilty as hell..............for the record so was Ben Roethlisberger.
BTW I understand Rick Barnes (at Providence) recruited Duncan but the administration would not allow Barnes to sign him to a LOI because there was not room on the roster at the time. (a player was going to transfer)
[bruce7] Exactly why the good characters should be celebrated [/bruce7]
For real tho, people need to look at the real character of those champions.
Kobe - what an act of love and devotion to buy his wife that 3 mil rock. High character
Duncan - see Duncanface
Shaq - law enforcement agent willing to sacrifice himself to serve and protect. High character
Brady - a muse. A leader. His life serves to inspire our fancy and fascinate our subconscious. Moderate to high character, but being vapid does not negate his following.
Ben - modern Samson. His strength and joie de vivre are legendary. High character, a man you'd trust your back in an alley fight.
That being said I prefer Duncan.
So you'd be okay if UT had a bunch of thugs (not like we haven't had issues already) off of the field/court?
