Actually, Tomey went 12-1 in 98, and left Arizona with a 95-64 overall record in 2000. So I guess in 4 years the buildings started to collapse and fall apart? Whatever you say - again, the OU excuse machine has no boundaries. They just keep churning til butter comes.
Found out this AM, this is my Doctor's son.
Had to give her some grief. She said he was looking at aggie too and TEXAS was full. Should have picked up on the name as it's pretty unusual.
Needless to say the kid is excited.
I see - Venables was the outright defensive coordinator at OU, and has had the most succesful defense in the Bob Stoops tenure... however, when they told him that he would have to carry Mike Stoops again, and share the co-defensive coordinator title it was in an effort to "make everyone happy?" Ohio State offered Mike as a co-defensive coordinator as well. Who else offered him? Not one significant team stepped up and said "Hey Mike, will you be our outright defensive coordinator." Not one. Imagine if you sucked so bad at your job that you had to take a step and a 1/2 down in order to work for your brother.
Venables had the most succesful defensive season in the Bob Stoops era without Mike on the sidelines too.
Let me guess - your an OU fan? How did I figure that one out?
If he's so "great", why didn't Urban offer him the DC position instead of "co-defensive coordinator". Oh yea, it's about making people "happy" and not about winning games or playing defense.
Again, based on what?
Venables is a great defensive coordinator. He has managed the position for years at OU and now will assume those responsibilities at Clemson. He has been a defensive coordinator.
A co-defensive coordinator is all that Stoops has been. I am still of the opinion that Venables was a better recruiter, and a better coach than Stoops. If Stoops can prove me wrong and develope a solid defense as "the man" - so be it. However, to date, he is a step down from Brent Venables.
Again, Arizona's defense was horrible under his overall leadership. That's a fact.
Surely you don't mean prepares them for the NFL, right?
"I don't hate you, I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence."
KStates defense was excellent when Mike Stoops was the DC. His defense was pretty good when he was at OU.
Mike Stoops is a great DC, but you can continue to troll the thread if that's what makes you happy.
I imagine he is talking about developing HS talent, but our track record of NFL draft picks ain't bad either. I mean 3 out of the first 4 picks a couple of years ago wasn't bad.
Mike Stoops is a damn good DC. Whoever thinks otherwise is a mouth breathing, knuckle dragging cave dweller who knows little about football.
You mean - "damn good co-defensive coordinator". The guy has NEVER been a defensive coordinator to date. 2 years as co-defensive coordinator at Kansas St., 6 years as co-defensive coordinator with OU, and then a failed head coach stint at Arizona.
Can we atleast wait and see how he actually does on his own at defensive coordinator? The guy is 52 years old, and he's still a co-defensive coordinator working for his brother? Really?
Sorry, Venables left so Stoops (by default) is now the outright defensive coordinator for the first time in his career. Venables recruits the #1 DE in the nation, and Stoops gets the #96 rated player in the state of Texas. Stoops is friggin killing it already!

I could care less if they make the nfl or not. thats not a big deal for me. we do develope our players to championship level. the resume since stoops has been here more than proves that.
but since yiu went there, we do develope them to nfl level too. do you not think so? A few years ago we had like 3 of the first 5 picks in the draft or something like that. So i dont know what it looks like compared to others but thats nothing. Our recruiting classes are rarely top 5 and we own the B12. decent talent, great coaching does that.
There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.
I love you OU fans playing the “victim” of less talented kids, but fantastic development of what they recruit. You do realize that when OU DID own the Big 12 conference; they were recruiting on average better than UT and most of the rest of the nation. In 6 years (00-05), OU had 3 top 5 classes, 5 top 10 classes, and all 6 were top 15. Texas had 1 top 5 class, 4 top 10 classes, and the other two were below the top 15.
By the way, the last time OU “owned” the Big 12 was in 2004. That is the last time that they went undefeated throughout Big 12 play. Texas has gone undefeated in the Big 12 conference the last two times it has happened. Both times have been since OU’s last time in 2004.
So, that said – OU was 4th in the Big 12 conferences last year and haven’t gone undefeated in the conference in seven years now. You “own” absolutely nothing.

Own, dominate, top program, you name it chupit, ou is it. the top program in the big12. You can say it anyway you wish but we are the team america thinks about when it comes to football in the b12. its not ou running around replacing coaches, flying banners and phoning voters. thats other programs trying to keep up with us. It will be that way yet again this year as we get b12 #8. or is it 9?
Keep telling yourself that, and maybe it will actually come true. I recommend that you don't get beat by 34 points by your in-state rival in order to make that happen.
Oh your and okst fan now???
I'm a fan of reality over your dream world where OU dominates in anything. The reality is, you guys were 4th in the Big 12 in football, 4th in the Big 12 in baseball, and didn't even field a basketball team.
So, based on that reality... tell me again about how OU "Owns, dominates, and is the "top program", you name it chupita, ou is it... and by "it" you must mean completely mediocre at everything. This aint 2000 "broman"... long time since OU did anything of significance period.
Didnt you guys just offer a Juco TE with 5 catches to his name? With zero D1 offers? And you have the nerve to disparage a 3* recruit? A couple of years ago we had 2 3*s drafted #1 and #4 in the draft.
Chupita is an OU fan trolling this board. It's embarrassing though how bad he/she is. Throwing out crap that makes a Horn fan cringe.
That's funny right there... "OU fan"... you idiot OU fan's blowing the OU sunshine up our skirts are the trolls. Last time I checked this was a UT board.
I agree that some 3*'s can be fantastic. The majority of them aren't though. We'll see which one this guy turns out to be. Either way, I wouldn't come onto a UT board pumping sunshine over him and your unproven defensive coordinator. Especially when your best recruiter (Venables) is getting the #1 defensive player in the nation right now.
Saying Mike Stoops has "never been a defensive coordinator to date" shows how little you really know. Josh Heupel is our CO offensive coordinator but calls the plays, I guess he's not really an offensive coordinator either right? You've just been owned. Sorry for this hijacked thread.
No but you definitely troll Horn boards and make true Horns cringe with your uneducated nonsense.
Our DC has a NC ring from when he put the 2000 Orange Bowl gameplan together. I think he has proven enough and the real Horns know it too. Just as they've told you to shut up because you are embarrassing them.

You do know Dabo Sweeney played ball with the kids dad right and was the primary recruiter? You should really stick to stuff you know what you're talking about. I'm not sure what that is yet though. And "unproven defensive coordinator" is about as dumb of a comment as you've made yet. Sumlin, Wilson, Long and Huepel were all co offensive coordinators, that's how it works in college. It's not the NFL. You're clueless.
He doesn't have a clue, but no one is truly that clueless, hence, troll.
OK, let's take it slow so you can keep up. It's a simple question - has Mike Stoops (in his career) been anything but a CO defensive coordinator, head coach or position coach? Ever?
You know what a "Co" coordinator is? Someone that doesn't have the full trust of their head coach, someone that has an equal coordinator, or junior coaches (like Heupel, Applewhite, Harsin)... 52 year old men are not necessarily "junior". So congrats, 52 years old and he's finally getting a chance to step up from being a "CO" defensive coordinator.
Dumb ass sooners, blah, blah, blah. Check the record you idiots we own ou and it ain't that close. You come here and run your mouths with nothing but trash. Red and malcom x what the fuck do you really know? Not much but how to blah, blah, blah. If you had anything you would not need to come here and stump for your trashy classless team or your cheating coaches. Ever heard of switzer? Americas #1 all time cheater.
