Jordan Mastrogiovanni has committed
Gotta like this take from UT's perspective. Ranked 96th in Texas. The kid didn't even get an offer from A&M.
The aggys wanted him pretty bad didn't they?
The ags offered him.
6'2" 225 lbs - OU seems going to a little bigger backer.
Wow, I'd like to see how that fits on the back of his jersey.
Great observation. Expect more nickel looks from OU in the future and that means the two backers will be bigger to handle the run.

Yeah, from what I understood they had him as a virtual lock. I wonder if them landing the other MLB a couple days ago influenced this decision or not.
Direct relation to Texas beefing the run game? I guess we should also expect to see more of the "Roy" DB to play closer to the line.
This kid was on my top 5 wish list. We haven't had a Mike backer with size since Loften and the defense has suffered. He's gonna be a good one.
This. Mike runs the Nickel 99% of the time. Nice post.
Rumor has it they have been practicing a lot of the Tampa 2
Typically that's what Mike ran in his first stint at OU
Ag here, never posted on y'alls site, but from what i understand, Mastrogiovanni was pretty high on our coaches list for LB, and favored us for a while but wouldn't pull the trigger. LSU offered him at fullback and once the OU offer came and he visited, decided to go with them. They said it was close, but OU has been his favorite school growing up and he couldn't pass it up. Not sure if Chevis committing eventually swayed him because they are both big MIKE backers, but we hope to get 4-6 LB's this year because we need depth, especially in the middle, so doubt that played a big factor in the decision.
Not looking forward to Mike Stoops being the DC in Norman again. I don't know if it was his ability or Greg Davis' lackthereof, but I'm starting to have flashbacks to 2000-2004 and I really don't like it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't LSU also offer Chevis as a fullback or is there a mix up on that info?
Lol well at least you don't have Chris Sims so that's a plus. I'm really excited about him coming back, great defensive mind and gets the most from his players. I was tired of seeing Venebels defenses ripped to shreds every other week, usually by the same mental errors that occured the year before. Not only that, he was running 3 lbs out there regardless of the situation, third and 90, we have three backers in there.
So, is his last name pronounced Mastro-geo-vaughn-e?
"I don't hate you, I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence."
So, SS, is that why he's still at Arizona?
He won more at AZ than most anyone else. It's a dead end job and he still competed for a conference title multiple times. Have you ever been to U of A? I toured their facilities when I was being recruited for baseball and they're trash. Both Arizona schools have terrible facilities.
That is what we were told about Chevis as well. Heard from LSU folks that they are going after Melvin Jones for ILB and Kendall Beckwith for OLB in this class and thats the only LB's they are taking. I am guessing it could have been a strategy telling those 2 they were the only LB's and not breaking that promise to Jones and Beckwith by offering Mastro and Chevis as FB to get them on board another way.

Great kid and a good get for OU.

and the first time I met him at Baylor's Jr Day he said, "Call me Mastro, makes it easier for everyone than writing it down."
I thought he and Gustafson would end up at A&M together.
