    I believe you. I know it is like asking the Chef for his secret recipe, but just mainly curious. Great scoop. Lets hope he continues to work hard and he clearly has momentum.

    If Gilbert wins, I do not see both Wood and McCoy transferring. The one who is listed 2nd would want to stay, be the backup, and take over fro 2-years once Gilbert is done.

    So non-starters don't deserve to have their names properly written? That's a bizarre attitude. I'd cut you some slack if it was Patrick Nkwopara, but even you should be able to muster up enough mental energy to memorize Connor Wood.

    If Wood wins -
    Why would McCoy stick around? Wood has more eligibility left than McCoy.
    Same goes for Gilbert, unless he willingly accepts that he isn't a starting QB anywhere.

    If McCoy wins -
    Same scenario as above, just switch the names around.

    If Gilbert wins -
    Big-time rumors McCoy would leave
    Medium-time rumors Wood leaves. The kid signed with Texas with every intention of beating Gilbert out for the starting job, not waiting around until Gilbert graduates.

    Dismissing the possibility is more silly IMO.

    I doubt Wood leaves if Gilbert wins the competition. He would still have 2 yrs eligibility and if he transferred schools, he would still have to sit out a year that would eat into his eligibility which gives him only 1 more year to start. When he signed with us, many posters on Longhorn boards had ridiculously high expectations and he must have thought his best chance to get on the field sooner than later was Gilbert leaving school early vs getting beaten out. Things would get really ugly with transfers if Ash wins the competition.

    are you saying that if Wood wins, that 2 people transferring won't happen, or that 2 QBs flat out won't transfer, or just that Wood definitely won't transfer?

    I think it's impossible to say what will happen considering spring practice hasn't even started. I get that the word is that Wood won't transfer, regardless of who wins, but then what if he does win? Or what if it really isn't as open a competition as people want/think? I don't remember a lot of people accurately predicting what would happen with Sherrod Harris last year.

    Seems to me that we will have at least 1 possibly 2 less QBs on the roster in the fall.

    But the only certainty derived from this three page topic, is that Wood is not plural.

  • I could see McCoy sticking around as a legacy - but maybe he thinks he can be as good as his brother. I don't see it.

    The future at QB most likely is either Gilbert or Wood. Just a sense - but I guess it is hard to count out a McCoy.

  • I would make the point that you don't want 4 QB's going into the fall. Only 2 get quality rep's, and we need the scholarships for other positions. Surely no one believes we will have 5 QB's for the 2012 spring if and when Connor Wood shows up? Tough position, but only one guy gets the football. Cull the herd by end of Spring.

  • I saw Wood work at the Elite 11 the spring before his senior year and his release and foot work had already improved leaps and bounds from the end of his junior season. I've always been impressed with his mental makeup and the way he approached the game.

    He was a the top guy on the board for a lot of programs the country.
