Per the Texas SID:
AUSTIN, Texas - Junior outfielder Cohl Walla (Austin/Lake Travis HS) has been dismissed from The University of Texas Baseball program for violation of team rules, head coach Augie Garrido announced today.
"We are extremely disappointed in the release of Cohl," Garrido said. "We see him as an exceptional athlete and it's disappointing that we didn't do more to help him stay focused in order to reach his full potential. We are proud of the fact that he is going to graduate from The University of Texas and will do everything in our power to help him sign a professional contract."
Walla, who made 91 starts in 116 career games at Texas, played in four games this season for the Longhorns, going 0-for-4 at the plate. He opened his Texas career in 2010 by earning Baseball America Freshman All-America second team honors after batting .316 with eight home runs and 40 RBI.
Never had any motivation. He was full of talent and potential but needed the "want to." Grew up with Garrett Gilbert and was and is still his best friend. LT kids haven't done so well at the next level - in general, they are too many maxed out finished products from a system combined with poor work ethics. Not enough room for growth, not enough team guys.

Just never rebounded after that super freshman season....shame
I watched almost every home game of Walla's freshman and sophomore seasons. It all started to go downhill in the regional his fresman year, and just kinda' snowballed for Cohl. I was amazed at how different he looked at the plate his soph. year, when his ba dropped almost 100 points. Once teams figured out how to pitch to the kid, the writing was on the wall imo. The knee injury had to be a tough blow as well.
I wish Cohl all the best.
