Since nobody has really discussed Texas being ranked, I'm going to go out and say that i hate that we are ranked. I really wanted Texas to earn everything they got this year and by having us ranked it puts pressure on the coaches and players to go out and perform right away to try and back up that ranking. This team should only be focused on getting better each week because we all know that it is going to take a couple games to get our feet under us.

just my opinion, but i don't agree. you hate that we are ranked? being unranked for the next month makes Texas even less relevant. and while this isn't a good team at all, i'd be interested in the teams that should be ranked higher.

this team just got done with the following-
-a blowout loss at home to a UCLA team that beat three other teams. -a home loss to Iowa freaking State. -a loss at home to BAYLOR. -a loss at home to an OK ST team Mack was 12-0 against. -another blowout loss to Kansas State. -a loss at home to aggy. -5-7. -the first time Mack has not made a Bowl and after player for the National Championship. -almost a completely new coaching staff. most just fired or leaving(meaning these KNOW they had better be an improvement or it's going to get ugly with the media, fans, recruiting, and possibly the team. -angry fans. -knowing we have to face a team(OU) much better team than we are soon and even a loss at 4-0 probably does make us unranked. then facing Oklahoma State the next week in Stillwater.
this is the worst pre-season ranking a Mack Brown team has ever had. there's already plenty of pressure. Mack, the staff, and the team know it. making it harder to climb the ladder w/ teams sitting ahead with easy schedules you can't pass in the rankings and need to lose is not the answer. going 4-0 and stunning OU(unlikely, but possible) gets us in the top 10 and confident.
being ranked #24 is not going to create any more pressure than what's already there. i like where we're ranked. recognized, but not overranked. it's in a good spot to ambush also imo.
i do see what you are saying though. i think. let the team get in rythm early. Bennie Wylie is supposed to be a pretty intense and demanding coach from what i've read and heard. the team has been around him since the Spring. i think the team will be ready knowing they have a lot to prove.
just my opinion.

I heard on the radio that not only did they lose their leading passer and rusher in Newton, but they also lost like 2-3 of their leading receovers and several of their leading tacklers. I believe they were voted to finish last in their division by the writers.

i know what you're saying but i would have just preferred for us to win a few games before we get that ranking. If we went into the RRR with a 3-1 or 4-0 record then i think you can justify giving this team a ranking. I actually don't think the ranking is that off, it's more of the idea of being ranked i wanted this team to prove. The less relevant we are going into the first 4 games the better imo.
