Clarkson Coming to Texas is at 90% and RSJ will be in Austin....

  • next weekend for the 15th Annual Central Texas Shootout brought to you by yours truly and Doug Burditt.

RSJ is taking the ACT early on the 14th, so his team won't be scheduled to play until late Saturday around 5;00PM at Akins HS here in Austin.

I will post the schedule when it gets completed next week.

As for Clarkson, I was told my someone close to the situation that it looks more and more favorable that he chooses the good guys.

  • I mean good, but it will really sketch things up for Frazier. In a perfect world, Clarkson is immediately eligible and we land Pollard. Or even just land Pollard and save Clarkson, but don't get Holland. But the staff can't risk it...

I just really want Frazier because his shootings just phenomenal....

I want Frazier too. I still don't get the rush to offer Holland if at all.

Well, if you think about it, it makes sense.

    Lineup for next year:

    PG: Kabongo/Felix/Gibbs
    SG: Lewis/Gibbs?
    SF: McClellan/??????/maybe Papa, maybe not
    PF: Holmes/Bond/Lammert/Papa
    C: Ridley/Ibeh

Serious concern on the wing if we don't land Pollard...

A sniper in the hand is worth . . . Hmm. Scratch that. Metaphor doesn't seem to translate.

For Clarkson to be immediately eligible, he will have to demonstrate the transfer is due to some hardship. I don't know of any family circumstances that have arisen that might require him to be closer to home, but the manner in which his desire to leave was publicized make it seem unlikely that a hardship waiver will be granted.

I'm still a little puzzled by Clarkson's determination to transfer. He has measurables that possibly make him a draftable commodity. He has adequate size for an NBA combo guard. He doesn't have great size, but he has enough to get by as a shooting guard. I'm not sure I am willing to believe that Manning won't be able to convince him to stay at Tulsa for one year, work on some things, and try to make himself draft ready in 2013 rather than sit out a year.

Lack of athleticism from Felix and Gibbs make defending opposing point guards after Kabongo is gone a serious question as well. In Gibbs' case not paying attention and not moving feet play into it, too.

  • I think Clarkson wants to compete at the highest level in college basketball. Tulsa is not going to be any better next year.

They lose 3 bigs, and they don't have a lot coming back up front.

He also realizes that if he sits out, gets stronger and works out vs. the Horns roster next year, it can only make him better.

Ogden really wants the kid from what I am told.

Maybe the need for more perimeter defense is the reason for offering Holland, even if he isn't a PG.

I just don't see how holland affects frazier. Guys like frazier are going to have lesser recruits in the classes above them at all schools. Now, I can understand Clarkson having an impact on frazier's decision, since he'd likely lose minutes bc of it. Just my take tho

I don't think one player affects another directly in some cases, but at some point it becomes a numbers game.

Here is the reality if Holland and Clarkson both end up at Texas...

The 2013-14 season at SG/wing: Sheldon McClellan (Jr.), Julien Lewis (Jr.), Jordan Clarkson (Jr.) and Holland (RS-Fr. or Soph.).

Under that scenario, knowing how college basktball recruiting is, not a good one for Texas if they hope to land Frazier.

  • Who will we recruit at point guard as Felix seems a little small and Kabongo seems gone after his sophomore season? Point guard seems like the more pressing need unless Felix and/or Gibbs surprise and play bigger, literally and figuratively, than advertised.
