    Thanks Bobby

Is Bluiett working at TE or DE? Also, do you think Colbert stays at safety or does he spin down to OLB.

    Yes, Bluiett remains at TE.

I think what Colbert plays depends on who the DC is. Right now, I expect him to stay at safety.

Is Benenoch being recruited as a Guard? If so, do y'all Mods believe he has the mobility & physicality to be a plus player there?

He's being recruited as a tackle. I think he'd make a better guard prospect actually. Not a ton of foot quickness there but he does have some natural explosiveness to him.

Do the sunshine "everything is fine" pumpers stand on any solid ground whatsoever or do you think there's legit reason to be concerned with the current recruiting landscape and what it looks like in the future? Would it be fair to say the SEC now has a quasi-foothold in the state now?

The SEC had a foothold in this state with the addition of A&M to the conference and the proximity of LSU primarily and Arkansas secondarily. I think it will only increase over time. But I still don't see any team other than A&M using Texas as a state of primary importance.

The problem Texas is having is that they are not even necessarily the top choice of the players who want to play in the Big 12 in the state. The situation with Robbie Rhodes this year is a case in point. Then there's a guy like Andrew Billings where it's still up in the air.

If Texas gets the guys who want to stay home and play in front of their family 8-9 times a year, then Texas will be just fine. But if Texas isn't the best option for players who want to do that, then things change. That's why I think beating Baylor and Tech this year, and potentially TCU, sets Texas up better than some may realize in 2014.

Is it an ideal situation overall? No, because the Aggies are doing well. But is it pretty good? Yes, if Texas is the dominant team in the state in the Big 12.

Overall, I think the current team and recruiting year is on very solid footing. Very.

I go back to what I've said a few times here. The core of this team is young and they are talented. They may not have a future superstar but they have a ton of future NFL guys.

I think there's really only one position that scares me going forward and that's at QB after Ash. But the roster and 2013 class are in great shape otherwise.

I think recruiting in 2014 will be pivotal for the long term of the program.

I've heard they both have struggled at times. With Brewer, it's athleticism at this level. With Overstreet, it's accuracy.

Overstreet could up and move to LB this spring and I wouldn't be surprised. He could also be a three-year starter at QB and it wouldn't surprise me much either. I just think he's a plus-athlete and they have to see if and when perhaps the light bulb will come on for him at QB and if he can then put it all together.

Stating the obvious and something you have been saying but if one of those guys does not step up we have a big hole in our QB succession chart. Gotta believe we take another in 2013 if Harsin doesn't think one of those guys can start looking the part by next spring.

Any of the top guys committed elsewhere willing to listen if we come at them hard?

  • You mods excited about TCU game ?

As far as I can see its the only live game on Thursday 22nd, and really gives Texas a chance to get some national respect again and showcase the abundance of young Talent (I really think Texas has a lot of talented players) Texas has. Big game for the D, and as long as the offense does what it's doing right now I can't see past a Texas win although won't come easy.

I don't think "big" is saying it enough.

I think it will be a HUMONGOUS gap because I don't think Swoopes is a QB. So you'll be potentially starting a true or redshirt freshman QB when Ash leaves.

And what happens if say Ash continues to improve and he leaves next year?

I think it's a HUGE test for the Texas O.

Gary Patterson has successfully defended Bryan Harsin offenses before. And I think TCU is VERY talented on defense. They are young but man are they talented. As much so or more than Texas IMO.

I think it's only a marginal test for the Texas D. So if the Texas D plays like wilted lettuce like its been wont to do this year, I think Texas is going to be in for a long night.

I'm tempted to pick Texas or TCU in a tight game.

  • Any chance the Big 12 gets another tie-in with a major BCS bowl, ala the Champions/Sugar Bowl?

The Juco TE/HB I expect will start as a FB/HB.

After that, I think A'Shawn Robinson could do it if he has a great spring and summer and gets serious in the weight room and in preparation.

With the 6th Bowl, yes. But I think all this bowl stuff is kind of crazy right now.

  • How do the asst coaches recruiting philosophies differ from Mack’s? Specifically Major’s?

Who does UT get to replace Manny? assuming: beat tcu/lose ksu/win bowl everyone else stays

    Bradford345

  • I can't wait for Swain to get to UT..Roberson is borderline atrocious

  • Is there a legitimate chance Mike Davis goes pro early? I keep hearing he may and I just can't see it.

I don't know how much they differ. I think comparing the two is impossible because it's been 25 years since Mack's been an assistant and Major' never been an HC. They truly have two different jobs as recruiters IMO.

I will say that I think when/if Major transitions to a HC, he will likely be very good in that regard. From what I've seen, he does a nice job taking a macro approach to recruiting. And he's obviously talented from a micro perspective (both his area of recruiting and his position).

I've heard similar rumors but not from anyone who would really have knowledge of the situation. I know former coaches at Skyline don't think it's got much veracity to it.

    Offense: JT Barrett

    Defense: Mike Mitchell

    On a Previous Boared:
JT Barrett was one of the Quarterbacks I thought Texas missed out on.
Along with Micheal Brewer,J.W Walsh, Del Barnes.
I know we can't take them all. But did Texas really, really look into this Kids', Comparied to the other Quarterbacks?
I've also heard stories about Manziel. He wanted to come to Texas, but we were going to offer him as an Athlete?
Then I ALSO Heard other Stories he was aTm all the way?
Bobby can you shed a little light on this?

I don't know who Texas will go after and I don't know if Manny is going to be replaced.

If he were to be replaced, I think Mack might be smart to go after Dick Bumpas at TCU or Dave Campo at Kansas.

What I think would be a major mistake is retrofitting someone like Duane Walker, a current head coach who used to be a DC, or even a guy like Ted Roof at PSU.

Manziel would have gone to Texas had Texas offered. Fairly confident of that.

At the same time, Texas identified and offered Ash over Manziel and Walsh that year.

  • One final note on why I think TCU and KSU will be tough games for Texas.

TCU is ranked No. 8 against the run nationally.

    K-State is ranked No 9.

By comparison, Oklahoma State is the previous highest Texas has played at No. 26.

At the same time, Texas is ranked No. 98 against the run, which is two spots BELOW Baylor.
