It was posted at one of the track sites that their relay team ran a 3:03.52. It was wind aided, although it is hard to see how that helps on a 400. It was 4 seconds better than the old high school record and 14 seconds better than the second best in the country so far. It will probably end up like that ridiculous 100 meters by the kid last year. Some kind of measurement error or something.
The wind might have been higher than 2 mph or whatever the threshold is, but pretty sure there is no such thing as "wind aided" in the 400 or the 4X400 (or any race 400 meters or longer), that if a record is broken in a race 400 yards or longer, that time stands regardless of how much wind there is.
My point is just to say that that is a darn fast time for a HS relay team, and as you pointed out, the wind speed doesn't matter. The wind speed doesn't cheapen it for me, and I think it also doesn't make it invalid for record-setting purposes.
My goodness that is fast for a high school relay team.

Wind aided in a 4x400? How do you do that? Do you mean 4X100? Still, one guy has it in his favor and one guy doesnt so whether is 4x1 or 4x4, wind shouldnt be a factor. Not saying youre wrong, but I just dont see how a 400 meter race gets dinged for being wind aided.

There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a man with nothing to lose.
Maybe they were running in a cyclone.
