British Open Thread

Okay, this could be a bad to brutal weather Open.
Slow greens - even for a British Open
205 bunkers (have to be able to shape it both ways IMO)
Rough is a monster because of all the rain - not going to be cut at all prior to Thursday. Driving it is going to be real key this week.

My favorite major. I went the year Ben Curtis won. Saw Tiger and Phil make eagles, that was fun.

For you Links course lovers you have to put Bandon Dunes on your US golf bucket list.
Absolutely amazing and the closest you can get to a British Open type course in the US.
On another note I will be playing Pebble Beach in September courtesy of my company. Hard to beat that.

I was lucky enough to play Murifeld three days after the Open in 2002. The thing I remember the most was just how high the tall heather was and just how close most of it was from the first cut of rough. On a lot of holes you couldn't even see the fairways from the tee boxes because they had the heather grown so tall in between the tees and the beginning of the fairways.
Anyway, I played it that day in pristine weather. I can't imagine what it would of been like playing in it foul weather.
On Lytham, it is a course where accuracy is really key off the tees. It isn't anything like St. Andrews where you can miss it all day long as long as you miss it left.

Gimmie Eldrick. If the weather gets bad, I like his chances even more. The guy can grind like no other, just look at the number of missed cuts compared to others

Lefty, no way. Tiger has won 3 times, but all on his courses. Arnies, Jack's and his tournie. I don't think so yet. with the weather, it is really set up for a euro. Els is my choice. since I don't sleep anyway, am looking forward to the early morning rounds.
