Was this just a situation where Coach Akina had buyer's remorse? Or did Arizona/Stoops not deliver on something that was promised?
The whole situation is just bizarre.

widely reported that he changed his mind after accepting the arizona gig. glad we got him back. he's one of the best db coaches in the business

Stoops recruited Akina with a promotion to Co-DC, and then rescinded the Co-DC part of the offer after Akina couldn't come back because we'd already essentially hired Jerry Gray.

I haven't either, but thank goodness for this pleasant surprise. We have enough bad ones for awhile. You have to give him a lot of credit for sucking it up and coming back to where he obviously truly wants to be. It has to be kind of embarrassing for him. But if it works for Jerry Gray to do an about face, then why not for Akina. Thank goodness signing day is a year away to allow enough time for recruits to forget about the Soap Opera that has been UT Coaching staff for the past 2 months. :)
But I love putting a Stoops in a bind !!

I keep telling people the co-DC part too. Where did that original story come from? Bobby or was it just general rumor?

Hellz Yes! I was disappointed when he left, excited that Gray replaced him, and even more excited that Akina is returning. Nobody better in the business IMO.
