Breaking News: Barnett

Eryon Barnett is out for season with right knee surgery. The hits keep coming at corner.
That leaves Carrington Byndom, AJ White and Quandre Diggs as the only true corners.
Two true sophomores with marginal experience and a true freshman. Wow.

More stuff from the presser:
DJ Monroe and Marquise Goodwin both not participating this spring. Running track.
Goodwin is not a surprise. We'd reported that previously. Monroe focusing exclusively on track - that is surprising. Getting these notes from Alan so will need to double check that later.

Akina's going to have to do a masterful job. Ready or not Josh Turner and Mykelle Thompson are going to see the field quick. Did this happen today or during an off-season workout? Any chance Jeremy Hills gets a look at corner?

Is the right knee the one he had surgery on his freshman year? If that's two surgeries on the same knee, his chances of playing again are pretty low.

I have a feeling that Diaz is going to have a VERY rough 1st season. We will have a hard time getting to the QB up the middle and stopping the run, and out secondary won't be experienced enough for the amount of time the QB will likely have. Oh and our starting DEs are sophomores.

Sky isn't falling yet. We seem to be in better shape this year than last year at both DT and MLB. Corner position is a bit scary but there is talent there. I would be shocked if Phillips doesn't play a little of both S and CB during the spring drills. Thank god Quandre came in early.

Our defense will better than last year and they weren't as bad as appears given the offense was so dreadful. I attribute their occasional poor play more than anything to being on the field constantly.
Two sophomores at DE, but ranked 1 and 2 overall in the state in 2010 along with Alex Okafor. I have no problem putting a sophomore out there in the form of a bulked up Jackson Jeffcoat.

According to Alan, when Mack was asked who would be tried at different spots, Mack said he'd be trying a bunch of people at a bunch of different spots and didn't want to go in to the particulars at that time.

A presser that lasts 7 minutes doesn't leave a lot of time for Q & A sessions. I am somewhat surprised that Mack was more media accessible today.

I agree with you on the OL position but at CB, you have the Marcus Davis attrition that is killing us and Williams leaving early. We have taken roughly 2 CB's in every class over the past four years but some haven't worked out for different reasons. We also have incoming freshman that can lend depth to the position.

Any chance Goodwin ends up at CB? Just saw on twitter him taking to Aaron Williams saying he should play DB and Aaron told him to talk to Coach Atkina. Probably a long shot since he won't be around in spring.
