Bohls: Rivalry void gone; so are BCS, Big 12 title hopes

Texas found a rival to replace Texas A&M.And unfortunately a whole lot more. Mostly, it found a much better team than itself, and that’s troubling.

  • I've said it more than once, but the big rivalries for Texas when I was growing up were A&M, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Two of those are no longer.

But we somehow play Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State every year, three teams of which Texas has no natural ties.

Not exactly an even trade IMO.

Well Deloss acts as if losing aggy doesn't matter and Mack acts as if losing to OU doesn't matter. So here we are.

  • When I grew up and when I went to UT, it was OU and Arkansas. Full stop. A&M was such a distant third they did not register. I would much rather see the Arkansas rivalry resurrected.

  • Bobby and I are about the same age. I agree that it ain't a fair trade

  • Arkansas was always a bigger rivalry than A&M before 1992.

That's not even close to right and you know it. You guys get more and more ridiculous after each loss this season.

Bobby's initial statement is most accurate. A&M and Texas are less than 2 hours from each other, have a history going back over 100 years and recruit against each other yearly. To say the Arky rivalry was bigger is bunk. OU? Absolutely.

Texas vs aggy was a greater rivalry for aggy...Texas vs Ark was a greater rivalry for Texas & Ark

  • It all depends on one's age and perspective I suppose. I graduated from UT in 1971, so if I think back to the most important games in the years leading up to and including my college years, Arkansas was far and away a more important "rivalry" than A&M. I think we beat A&M 17 out of Coach Royal's 20 years, so the A&M game was no big deal.

I was at the game last night, tailgating before the game with a full Thanksgiving dinner. It didn't seem any different without the Aggies to tell you the truth. We had several fine Texans with TCU ties in our group and the spirit of the day was not diminished without A&M.

Times change. People move on. Good luck to A&M in the SEC, but UT will be fine without them on the schedule in perpetuity.

Spoken like an Aggy. You have no clue. Tech is your rival, but you can't bring yourself to admit that, can you? Now run along.

Tech is A rival, not our only rival. Spoken like a true arrogant prick. You act like my statement is baseless. The series between A&M and Texas is the longest running out of them.

Recent history also has the series much closer than before. I know OU is who gets your jollies off. That's why you're willing to fire a coach for not beating them. It's just downright childish to bury your head in the sand and act like the history between the two schools meant nothing. It's the jilted lover.

Recent history has Texas 0-1 versus TCU and 1-0 versus Aggy. I can't wait to play TCU again. Texas has always meant more to A&M than A&M has meant to Texas. I guess that is what happens if you are the flagship university in the state of Texas.

You're delusional to project that A&M is a big rival to Texas. Sure it made for a good story. We played you because the game was on the schedule. Nothing more. Longhorn fans didn't sit around all year waiting for the "big game" against A&M with talk of can't wait till next year. Dude, it was your super bowl and all you lived for. Now that it is gone it will be looked upon by almost all Longhorns as an era when we played a cross-state team. Nothing more.

You guys are like the bad habit that won't go away.

  • I always thought it went ou, arkansas, aggy.

It would be great to sign a long term deal to play Arkansas. That would piss of aggy to no end.

Minus the ten year run where aggy was on probation multiple times for cheating aggy has never been anything more than a 1 out of 4 type of team against Texas.

As much as they like to say that the recent history has been closer, then will always fail to admit over that same time period aggy is 20-18 against Tech.
