Of the guys on staff, I think it would be either Major or Diaz. I think either would be excellent head coaches and shepherds and leaders of a college program.
Depending on timing, I'm anxious to see how guys like Gary Patterson and Art Briles do. Then there's a guy like Paul Rhodes who I know Deloss has a lot of respect for.
Two guys out west are very interesting to me - Jim Mora and Steve Sarkisian.
From the south, I think Dan Mullen will be a no go for a variety of reasons. Larry Fedora, if he does well in Chapel Hill, might be someone to consider because of his Texas ties.

I would love to see Major get an opportunity to be the HC of Texas. I love everything the guy stands for. Being from Baton Rouge myself and watching him lead Catholic High School along with Travis Minor and Greg Brown made a big impression on me as middle schooler, so much so that all of my friends wanted to attend Catholic. I watched the adversity during his UT career with the Simms situation and he never complained. While I was an LSU fan (please no down votes lol) I would have loved to see him come home to Baton Rouge, and coach there, but he's where he needs to be. Fast forward to Duke's recruitment, when he found out the family was from Baton Rouge he specifically made an extra effort to let them know that Texas was an amazing place with a family atomosphere. Which is something my aunt really loves.

i keep seeing sarkesian's name in this thread. that guy needs to win some games before he gets mentioned as the next hc at texas. he's going into year 4 and hasn't broken 7 wins overall, or 5 in conference, yet. aside from getting damn lucky his first year vs usc, he can't beat any of the top 3 teams in the conference. 1-8 vs usc, oregon and stanford.
as far as recruiting - if sumlin is a 3* general, then sark is right there w/ him. over the 3 years he's been in seattle, 1 five*, 15 four* and 53 three*.

He told me that he liked the way that they hired Mack. They set up a committee, they looked at a couple of guys and made a decision. He also said that he would ask Mack to make him a short list of who he should be talking to. I really shortened the conversation but it didn't sound like he wanted to go with a coordinator.

Briles is massively misperceived by Texas fans. He is a really great guy when you're around him. He could recruit lights-out at Texas IMO. I absolutely think he would be on the short list with his success at UofH and Baylor, to go along with all his connections among Texas high schools. I was shocked A&M didn't throw the world at him. He would have been a great hire for the aggies.

I know one of the committee members, they interviewed Barnett and I was told he was difficult to deal with. The same group met with Mack and it made it a night and day decision. But that is my point. Deloss effectively said he like the process last time and it worked well so I would guess he would do the same thing again. I also don't think Royal was part of the search committee.
