Bill Powers: Coach Brown has my full support

  • Wonder who told him to call the team young. fingergun

Now that the Longhorn football team has finished its regular season, there has been an increase in media speculation about Coach Mack Brown’s future. I’d like to state unequivocally that Coach Brown has my full support as well as the support of Men’s Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds. Put succinctly, Mack Brown is and will remain the Longhorns’ head football coach.

Coach Brown restored Texas’ winning tradition. He embodies the Texas character, is a superb ambassador for The University of Texas, and runs a program that is both winning and clean, a program that all alumni and fans can and should be proud of. Mack cares about the young men on the team as people, as students, and as players, in that order, and he models the kind of leadership that will serve our players for the rest of their lives.

I look forward to watching this young team win the Alamo Bowl and continue to grow in seasons to come.

  • What else is he going to say? There is no other position for the Pesident of The University of Texas to take concerning the head coach.

He didn't need to say anything at all.

  • Shocker! No mention at all that the team is 21-16 in the last three years under Brown. I guess that's the new standard at Texas. As long as you keep our (Administration) happy with money, run a clean program, and smile in front of the cameras when you give credit to "us", everything is just fine. Powers needs to put the drink down when he talks about Brown running a program that is "winning". I don't know where he's been, but I guess if were at a point now where as long as you have one more win at seasons end than you do losses, that's ok by him. What a joke! Bill Little could have wrote this and I wouldn't have known the difference.

The fact that he is saying something tells you that the heat is definitely on, otherwise why even make a statement of support.

    Definitely agree with that.

  • Mack seems to have circled the wagons.

In so doing, he has caused my disdain for him to increase immensely.

I wonder how Powers is going to feel if we get our sh*t pushed in at the Alamo Bowl.

    President Powers,

Mack Brown may remain the head coach this year, but I have to disagree with the following:

He does NOT embody "Texas character". And I'll be damned if a person native of Los effin' Angeles, CALIFORNIA, who graduated from Cal effin' BERKLEY in 1967 and then did Harvard Law HAS ANY effin' CLUE AS TO WHAT "TEXAS CHARACTER" IS! You don't, so quit trying to tell us it's just raining when you are pissing on our legs!

He does NOT run a clean program. He likes you and everyone to think so, but he's NOT some pure patriarch like you'd love to believe. See: Ole Freak Nasty.

He has NOT built a program that alumni and fans are proud of TODAY. He is an embarrassment, and so are you for falling for his bullshit.

And again, for emphasis, take your California pita-bread lovin' dumbass comments about "Texas character" and shove them up your pompous ass. You have no clue.

    Sincerely,

    Black Shipley

It tells me that he is assisting Mack with the negative recruiting that he is having to endure on the trail from scumbag coaches preaching fear and uncertainty. Pricks like Briles, Sumlin, Stoops, etc.

That, and the mis-information that is coming directly from the UT fan base that has an agenda to replace Mack even at the expense of the program. Stupid rumors like Malcolm Brown is transferring, and Baylor is out-recruiting us.

This needed to be done by Powers.

...Mack Brown? You know, the fearful gladhanding PR wiz that is "scared to death" of everything? Negative recruiting against Texas right now if painfully easy. And it only gets easier by they day, every day that Mack remains head coach at Texas.

Mack is dealing with a situation of his own doing, and he's paid handsomely. I just hope Mack realizes that his legacy may be tarnished.

I saw the pitchforks in 2003 as well. Mack knows the fickel fanbase that is UT's... he just started the rebuild last year. UT is exactly where we expected them to be this year. He is not "tarnishing" anything. He's trying to fix a program that was slipping due to a change in regime.

    "we"?

You got a rat in your pocket? NO ONE expected OU to throttle us the way they did. NO ONE expected TCU to beat us at home before the season started! NO ONE expected us to barely eek out a win vs. KU. NO ONE expected our defense to be the mid-term abortion that it has become.

And how is he trying to FIX a program that was slipping due to a change in regime THAT HE MADE!!!!

Answer that. The "regime change" is on him. The "slipping" is on him.

I swear, you are so damned dense that black holes get jealous.

  • Love it. Mack is dealing with a problem he created with lazy recruiting and his own inability to develop his players. Yet chupita wants to put all this on others. 4 losses including a blowout to OU and losing to an even younger TCU is not what people envisioned for this season. But hey there's always next year apparently for Mack because the results no longer matter at the top.

Is having a coach being paid 5 mil while being 21-16 mis-information? What about recruiting 4 and 5 stars every year and getting mediocre production out of them?

Right now Briles, Stoops, and Sumlin have something to sell to recruits. Right now if you're a prospect with no previous ties to anyone, you go to OU if you don't want to get your face kicked in Dallas. Assuming the polls are right about Johnny Football, Sumlin and Briles have produced Heismans in the past 2 seasons. They have stuff they can bring to the table we can't. They don't have to negative recruit. Why would players go to a place where they feel their talents won't be utilized and result in a mediocre career? This isn't mis-information, this is real!

I was in Mack's corner until the OU game. Now, I think it's time to move on. My gut says Mack will be back. But anytime someone makes a statement they're behind their coach, it means there's something up.
