Big 12 Power Rankings

Offense was the name of the game this week in the Big 12 with shootout in Morgantown and Stillwater. Every team has played a conference, so where do they all stack up?

  • I think Tech is going to beat OU this weekend like they beat OU in 2009. OU's defense is average and their offense has lost all explosiveness. They are 6-4 in last 10 games, and 2 of those wins were against UTEP and Florida A&M. They're running game is bad, so if they can't score on big plays, they can't score, and they haven't scored on big plays much in 10 games.

  • You are way off the mark on KSU. They have a decent defense but a below average offense that a weak UT team held to 121 yards last year. They struggled with UNT at home and barely beat a weak OU team. UT beat OSU by 5 on the road. KSU beat OU by 5 on the road. Who do you think wins between OU and OSU? OSU will blow OU out just like they did last year and OSU will probably beat KSU and WVU will handle KSU at WV. UT's bad defense will be less of an issue with KSU's less explosive offense. I'll Take UT at KSU with the rest of the season to improve.

I see what you're saying, but KSU has time and again proven they win games close. That's just what they do. They're a tough, physical, well-coached team that doesn't beat itself. Sometimes that means they get in ugly games against teams they should beat by more.

It's also hard to compare all those various scores across the college game. Just look at OSU, who lost bad to Arizona, who got blanked by Oregon. Tough to judge teams like that.

  • Thanks Dave. Tough conference when you have TCU at #7.

Not a believer in TCU. Like I said in last week's power rankings, there's a good chance they start 7-0, but their last five games are brutal.

  • Wouldn't surprise me at all if we look at this list in mid November and it's completely different. Ok. State seems just as good as WV and KSU. While ou is struggling they can beat anyone as well. Texas has a good chance to be at the top of this list in two weeks.

Texas Tech/OU this coming weekend will be interesting. I was at the Iowa St./Tech game yesterday and what I saw is that Tech is only a fumble or two and a couple of play makers better than ISU! Doege thru for 360+ yards, but Tech only ran for 66+/- yards and you'd expect that game to be 45-13 and not 24-13.

I'm not really sure what to make of Tech... were they playing at their best or playing 'down' to Iowa St.? But one thing is for sure... if Doege throws pics like he did in Ames, then they'll get blown away like the wind in Lubbock! We shall see...

  • Is there a stronger conference top to bottom in the country? You have to show up every week against every team (except possibly Kansas). You would think playing @ Iowa State or @ Texas Tech wouldn't be difficult but heck, its a loss if you don't play your best. Great depth for the Big 12 this year.

It seemed the Cyclones have a pretty good D. Also Doege was Sacked 3 times for 35 yds. That's a lot. Tech had 80 yds in Penalties too.

If they can win at least 2 of those, they should have a pretty good season. "Brutal." (as of today...)

  • I don't understand having Baylor ahead of TCU and then saying that TCU won't be tested until after they play Baylor. Other than that, agree with it.

  • I would swap KState and WVU. Also I would swap OU and OSU. Other than those I think you are dead on.

Common denominator between the two I have ranked lower: no defense.

Count me in as well. I've been very unimpressed with TCU. Yes they are 4-0 and, bottom line, that's all that matters. However, they have struggled (with "lesser" competition) in those victories. Very possible for them to finish 7-5.

Not knocking you're putting them at #7, just commenting on strength of the conference. It will be brutal for everyone, especially Kansas. Other than them, I could see any other team beating their opponent on any weekend. I still believe Texas is close to being right there with KState and WVa, but anything can happen. One drawback to a roundrobin schedule vs SEC divisions where you don't play everyone every year. I do prefer the roundrobin however.
