Best Secondary in the Country

  • Hmm..ESPN seems to think so...Take that Honey Badger!

    TimmyLonghorn

  • Gotta prove it on the turf. With Okafor and Jeffcoat to go along with a dynamic range of DTs they should have every opportunity to ball hawk.

  • Lets see, two NFL DE's, best secondary in the Country....looks like the Defense's weakness (if you call it that) will be the DTs and LBs...I can settle for that.

    Scharnell

  • For the record, the honey badger is a very, VERY average cover corner. He makes ESPN for his punt returns and the strip and score he had, which happens with a lot of DBs. ESPN will crap themselves when he slips to the 4th round.

    +1

Youre right, he is average at best as a cover corner

  • LSU loves red shirt fish Jalen Collins. How good he is will likely tell the story for them. If he comes through, I wouldn't be surprised if Honey Badger plays all over the place and rarely at CB. Time will tell

  • I can see Texas having the best secondary in the country. I can also see LSU saying the same.

Both teams are very, very talented at the position IMO.

  • Another in a long list of meaningless, worthless preseason list.

Abolish it with the rest of them.

How much is a secondary tested in the SEC? The secondary gets tested in the Big 12.

LSU had 437 passes attempted against them
Texas had 455... in one less game

Opponents against LSU went 229/437 for 52.4%
Opponents against Texas went 257/455 for 56.5%

Opponents attempted 31.2 passes per game against LSU
Opponents attempted 35 passes per game against Texas

LSU intercepted one out of every 31.2 passes
Texas intercepted one out of every 35 passes

*Did not mess up there, LSU played 14 games and had 14 picks, Texas played 13 games and had 13 picks

LSU also played Oregon and WVU out of conference last year, so...

SEC went 109/231 for 47.2% against LSU (counted the SEC champ game, did not count the MNC game)
Big XII went 191/329 for 58.1% against Texas

No way to really account for teams throwing the ball a lot while trying to catch up because LSU had a lead, teams playing keep away while running and then punting because Texas couldn't do anything on offense (MU, KSU), teams running the clock out after having big leads (Baylor - 10 less pass attempts than their season average).

Thanks. I have the impression that they don't pass much over there. Looks like a misconception. Appreciate the info.

I was actually proving your point for you. LSU's numbers were inflated because they played Oregon (54 pass attempts) and WVU (65) out of conference. The in-conference numbers are much more in Texas' favor, but A&M and Ole Miss will both be trying to throw the ball all over the lot from now on.

The Texas completion percentage is also inflated because of all the dinking and dunking Tech did (Doege was 40/55).

Still though, LSU appears on paper to have done better. Lower completion percentage, one more pick on 18 less attempts.

    LSU lost Mo Claiborne

    Texas "lost" Gideon
