Baylor mod regarding conference realignment

    I kinda like #3.....

    Hypothecials

#1 Adding Clemson and FSU (12 Teams)

East: FSU, Clemson, WVU, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State West: Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech

#2 Adding Miami and Louisville in 2014 (14 teams) (in addition to FSU and Clemson)

East: FSU, Clemson, WVU, , Miami, Louisville, Kansas, Kansas State West: Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU, Iowa State

    or

#3 Adding Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh (16 teams) (in addition to the other adds)

Southeast Pod: Miami, FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech Northeast Pod: West VIrginia, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Iowa State Midwest Pod: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State South Pod: Texas, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech

I love the #3 option you present. In the long run i like the 4 team pod system bc i think this is what the SEC will do at some point. I feel 10(get to play all teams so true champion) or 12 team conferences are the best to determine a true conf champion and all systems are better than the 14 team conf.

I know Lousiville is a good basketball school but this is run by football so if comes down to Louisville vs a Pitt of GT or even a Maryland, i think most of the other ACC schools or even a team like BYU would/should get the nod.

Lets assume Fsu and Clemson do come to Big 12 what are the other options?
a)stay at 12 teams and get a conf title game.
    or
    b)add 2-4 more teams.
If we add ND then Pitt, GT and Miami will pay anything to join us.
    or
We dont add ND and maybe 2 others of the following Pitt, GT, Miami, Louisville, etc would want to join. Louisville wants to come no matter what but there are at least 10 teams more deserving than them.

If Louisvile ends up in the same side of a 12 or 14 team conf with Ku, Iowa St and Ksu then that becomes a much weaker side of the conference, similar to what we had in the old big 12 though i hope not as bad.

I feel its a 12 team or 16 team situation.

    Hookem 89,
It is possible for Pac, Big 10, Big 12, Sec, Acc to go to 16 teams. It just means that teams like Byu, Louisville, Cincinnati, etc will all be in a bigger conf and Big east will not exist and a few smaller conferences will be diminished. Only 2 logical geographical choices for Pac are Byu and Boise at this point but as the Aggie t-shirt clearly showed us all, geography isn’t too much of a priority.

I hate the unfairness that ND gets currently with the Bcs and what they will probably get with BCS playoff system. 9 wins is all it takes for them to get in is a joke. Should have been10-2 minimum.

Brian E, thanks for the information! Keep it coming!!

    Bob in Houston, great post!

  • Also read that Clemson and Fsu wanted a revote to get Wvu into Acc but Unc/Duke wanted Syracuse and Pitt. Meaning they want a basketball conference. Makes sense that Fsu, Clemson, VT and Miami(football programs) want to look somewhere else.

I hope this early info leakage doesnt change what the Bcs or Espn or Acc will do to keep this from happening.

I believe it is the networks that are driving this bus. The BCS wants the most it can get and same with the networks.

FSU, Clemson, Miami, and VT demanded a re-vote, and even thought they had persuaded Wake Forest to vote yes. Once the re-vote happened Wake bowed down to UNC/Duke/NC State and voted no again. FSU actually went public about being pissed with the additions over WVU.

WVU fans were happy because we wanted Big 12 all along because its a football conference and not a basketball conference.

  • Talk about an exciting and major upgrade. Imagine replacing aggy with FSU as a rivalry game and opening Florida to more UT recruiting. Bring it on.

  • ? For Brian E and others that seem to have a good grasp on the situation.

Is this a correct assumption as of what we know right now?

A)new Bcs deal that will allow ND to get special circumstances and if so ND will remain Independent(in football at least and might join a conference for other sports) and then allow Fsu/Clemson to leave Acc.
        1)for the Big 12.

2)Sec could say well if Acc is breaking down why dont we just take Fsu and assuming the next logical choice would be VT(but you can place a couple if other Acc teams as #2).

B)new Bcs deal that doesnt give ND a special clause and forces ND to join a conference. ND could choose btw the 2 most likely destinations, Acc and Big 12.

1)if ND chooses Big 12, then many other programs will want to come to Big 12 to make it 12, 14 or 16 teams.

2)If ND chooses Acc, they become stable and Fsu/Clemson dont leave and Big 12 stays at 10 teams. I dont see Lousiville + 1 other team likely unless its a big program.

Is this a fair assumption? If so, I don't really like either of the #2 options. Thanks!

  • How about another option.

Take FSU and Clemson to weaken ACC and improve Big 12. If no special playoff clause for ND, with FSU/Clemson gone from ACC, ND will want to join Big 12 over B1G.

that would be ideal. What will Acc do to stop them from going? I hope they dont care for them and wand more basketball schools but doubt it.

Sec would love to block this deal, and what would Sec do stop this deal? Invite Fsu themselves?

Keep in mind that they also have two more mouths to feed the increase will be marginalized on that basis.
