  • Good stuff. The bball staff is usually pretty honest about putting realistic heights/weights on there without shoes on.

Holland is a little smaller that I thought he'd be at 6-2 170.

Felix at 5-10 190 is a bowling ball...dude definitely needs to trim down if possible.

Yup, that's definitely good news. Those walkon guys may not ever play, but they are extremely valuable in practice. Sometimes, the walkons are some of the hardest working kids on the team which help lead by example...esp. for the guys with talent who haven't ever had to be pushed as much because they were just naturally better.

  • We have a lot more quality size than last year. I like how last year's class fuels the backcourt and this year's class stocks the frontcourt.

  • I remember the previous mention about Newsome and wonder if there may be some contribution from him down the road, since he was an 80+% ft shooter, a 32.5% 3 point shooter, and was voted defensive player of the year by district coaches. From what I've seen, he's stick thin (6'9" and only 180 and looks it), but he demonstrates some decent mobility in the full court and anticipation in the half court. I wonder if there might be a real player there after a couple of years in strength training.

  • I'm thinking a possible Connor Atchley.....probably not as good, but potentially similar.

  • The figures on Ridley are a little disappointing. Only 6-9, and at 270, probably way too heavy.

  • Papapetrou at 6'8" 225 compared to Ridley's 6'9" 270 is impressive.

Watching the workout video papa put on another thread it looked like Ridley was not in good shape around the middle..........but we don't know if that video was produced in May or June. If Coach Wright has 3 months he could get Jeff Madden into shape (if they have the desire to get in shape)

Watching Ridley in HS video, I never thought he was in very good shape, which is another reason I have been thinking he will not be a good bet for first round draft status until 2014 at the earliest.

In the second workout vid papa posted, Wright refers to "Papi" being 6'7" and Ridley being "7 foot." I don't think the last is accurate.

  • Ridley will be fine.
He doesn't have ingrained bad habits like Dex had.

I don't doubt that. I just think it will take some time for him working with Wright to get into optimum shape to impress NBA scouts.

That's why I have never taken those Ridley is a one and done lock claims seriously. When you add his lack of height for a center with his lack of athleticism/mobility to play pf you have a guy that will have to hang around the 40 at least 2 yrs.

  • Some data for numerologists.

Lewis has changed numbers from 0 to 14 (Brown's number last year).

Bond has changed numbers from 2 to 5.

Melchionni went from 5 to 0.

Freshmen uniform numbers match their high school numbers with these exceptions.

Javan Felix and Demarcus Holland wore 22 in high school. Dick already had 22. Felix is number 3; Holland is 2.

Ibeh and Newsome wore 44 in high school. Ibeh gets it for Texas. Newsome takes 4.

Lammert is 21. I think he was 54 in high school, a number that is not being used, but he was 21 for the Ambassadors last summer.

Will Temple was 35 in high school, but that's retired, and if you have to ask why, then you should have to sit in a corner for an hour. He's 31 for Texas.

  • Ibeh is a legit 6-10.5 to 6-11 for what it's worth.

I bet Ridley will play at 255-260 this year. He's on his way down.

  • I think Cam is a little taller than 6'9. But, if he's not it's his incredible wingspan that makes him play much bigger.

Also, if Daniel Orton was one and done, when he didn't even start at UK, then don't be surprised if Cam leaves. Big men are in such demand these days that nothing would surprise me.

I don't think anyone disagrees with that assessment - outside of people that would want Ridley making money as soon as possible.

Just me, but because he is not a plus athlete and is 6-9.5 to 6-10, he has to maximize his body/stamina and everything about his game.

Of course, there was a top 5 pick ahead of him reason for not starting for Kentucky, and 2010 was a very weak draft for centers. Cousins and Aldrich were the only domestic centers drafted ahead of Orton that year (three if that is what you want to call Favors). It was 3 or 4 picks later that Pittman was taken.

The upcoming draft should have several high quality centers available with the following guys projected as likely first rounders by most mocks (assuming the players declare and not counting the bleacher report sort of mocks):

    Nerlens Noel
    Cody Zeller
    Steve Adams
    Rudy Gobert
    Alex Len
    Jeff Withey
    Isaiah Austin

A strict center candidate on the short side of 6'10" and not showing plus athleticism is likely to have a hard time getting favorable reviews and a good draft spot. A year of work may do enough, but it's likely to take him longer to position himself well relative to other centers in the draft.

  • I wasn't saying he should go in the draft, I'm saying it wouldn't surprise me. And, even with those guys you listed it wouldn't surprise me if he was a 1st rd pick.

I think he should stay for two years no matter what because he could change his body and athleticism, and develop more offensive moves.

Texas agree with this, and is recruiting bigs in the 2013 class for this very reason.

And I agree with you as well.
