One Maryland site is saying that while Rutgers it getting the most public run as a partner to go with the Terps, Georgia Tech is pushing to be that second team.

I bet they are.
If you followed some of the free spirits that had some run this summer, they said the B1G thought GT was too far out of their area. It could be that that thinking has changed, especially if they thought GT might be a good way to convince ND to forget about the ACC.

I think if the B1G poaches Georgia Tech that might get FSU to start looking. Georgia Tech is a southern located football first school. I also think that the B1G wants the Big 12 to gut the ACC so they can possibly add NC, VA or ND.

I am sure I read in the Dallas Morning News there was a provision for adding teams.

I purposely avoided putting in any of the details. Interesting stuff... he promises a tell-all (tell-most?) piece tomorrow.
Sure looks like the B12 is paying for not being able to close a deal this summer (assuming there was a deal to be made).

Why does the Big 12 need to act? They are the strongest conference 1-10 in college football. Why add 2 teams when you don't have to? The round-robin schedule is much better than the conference championship game model.

Without knowing the particulars of what happened or didn't happen this summer I think the B12 is in a pretty good position right now and I'm a proponent of expansion. Although not for the sake of expansion.
If Maryland, a founding member of the ACC, leaves the ACC can simply add UConn if they choose to replace them. However, it further weakens the conference long term. I know FSU is pissed about being a 1 loss team and essentially completely out of the MNC discussion. They'll still be looking and I have a feeling VTech and NC State will be getting calls from the SEC soon.
The question is what happens after Maryland leaves? The seeds of discontent are sewn and it's just a matter or whether the next conference to strike is the SEC, B10 (again), or the B12. I think the B12 will be the last to act.

Exactly. Without a conference network like the B10 and SEC the desire to suck up markets is not as strong.

Our current round robin while more interesting , is putting us at a competitive disadvantage to the other leagues by beating ourselves up and lacking a conf championship game.

i absolutely agree that at this point the B12 shouldn't add schools just for the sake of adding. but adding a school - such as FSU - that brings a lot to the table especially in the main sport should be at the least be seriously explored.

I love the round robin, but will we be left in the cold if we dont get at least two more? Then, it has to be the right two. Iwould love to get two of four out of FSU, CLEM, VT or Louisville. My picks would be FSU and CLEM since we alrady have a presence in the Virginia area. I would like to go west and east, but nobody is left out west. Fresno State isnt what they used to be. SDSU isnt there yet. BYU maybe. Boise Maybe. I think if we can get the two big boys from the ACC, then we can get ND to finally start looking.

The idea that the round robin makes the schedule easier by not subjecting the champs from each division to an extra game is bullshit IMO. It leaves out the fact that you get to skirt by 2 or 3 teams in the other division. It's easier to not play everyone. Look at some of the SEC schedules.
12 gets you an easier path, more money, and more prestige. And yes like I said earlier you have to take FSU if you can.
