B12 Pre-spring QB rankings

  • Pre-spring QBs. How would rate them. This is how I see it. Debate all you wish, it makes the off-season go by faster.

    1. OSU - Stevie Wonder can see this
    2. TCU - Return of Pachall and Boykin got tons of experience and improved a great deal
    3. UT - Another year of growth for Ash
    4. IAst - Richardson with a full year of 1st team reps could be dangerous
    5. KU - Dual threat was not great, but got better as the season went along
    6. OU - First time starter running the entire offense
    7. Kst - No Klein, but an absolute blur at QB this year could be even better
    8. BU - Brand new, but Briles has this thing dialed in.
    9. TT - Great potential, but what will the staff do with the offense
    10. WV - New guy can play, but we will see how it goes as a starter.

    I went with experience more than anything. You can mix up everything after KU any way you wish IMO because they will all have new starters. We will see how things shake up after spring.

    Next up RBs

    Heck, I expect them to be in the top 4 or 5 post spring. Maybe higher. Couldnt put them higher since the new QB will still be wet behind the ears.

  • 1. Texas - the statistics don't lie. Stevie Wonder may not be able to see them though... top 2 WR's (see stats again), and his entire offensive line returning (+ some new ones)
    2. TCU - cocaine is a hell of a drug
    3. OSU - could be higher if JW Walsh gets the job. Lost a few lineman, top RB threat, and their offensive coordinator
    4. OU - I expect it will be Bell at FB/QB and he hasn't proved that he can pass the ball yet. Great weapons with Saunders, Shephard, Williams, and Millard
    5. TT - Brewer is a winner from a winning bloodline. See what Kingsbury did with Manziel.
    6. BU - not sure who's gonna start here. It's an offensive system that will ensure that the guy will put up numbers.
    7. ISU - Richardson must play like he did against KU, and not like he did against WV and Tulsa
    8. KSU - JUCO guy that Texas looked at briefly. As long as he takes care of the ball it shouldn't matter.
    9. WV - Not sure who the guy will be. The only one that had stats last year threw for under 50% and had a QB rating of 110.
    10. KU - Who cares. This team is a run oriented team at this time.

  • With the right QB, Baylor could be a 9-10 win team. With the wrong QB, it could be 6-7 wins.

    I don't know who they'll throw out there but my guess is they'll be more in the 8-9 win category.

  • TCU is the team that maybe interests me the most.

    Their OL is the team's only weak spot IMO.

    Everywhere else, I think they are probably as good as any team in the league.

    When looking at bu schedule i fully expect them to be 7-0 going into bye week before both ou and tech at home. They will be favored in the first 7 games. 9-0 is real possibilty. Problem is they finish at tcu at ok state and home to texas

    Without Longhorn bias, I just don't see how you could rank TCU above UT. Remains to be seen if an entire year off will have an affect on Pachall's play, while Ash is a known commodity and should improve.

    Based on the systems they run and the past successes of their QBs, Baylor and Tech both have to be ranked higher than K St until proven otherwise. Ranking all 3 is purely speculation but I have to lean toward the general success QBs have in those systems.

    I think that Garrett Gilbert may give them a huge surprise on 9/14 in Dallas. KSU is well coached and will want some revenge for last years game. In Bill Snyder's house there is no room for error.

    If they get through those two games with victories, they should be ok. The last 5 games will be a struggle, but the Bears should be at their best by that time.

    I'm with Bobby - they could be a 6 win team, and the could be a 9 win team.

    Losing Ivory Wade is the one I want to see them replace. He was very good at center and helped them beat folks inside.

    RGlll "hit it out of the park"... the rest are just overhyped, serviceable QB's.

    That ULM game should be fun, and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Baylor lose. I don't see them beating KSU on the road either... the 'Cats will be plenty pissed about what happened in Waco last season.

The Combination of Boykin/Pachall is better than Ash/(insert name). If the three of them competed for a job, its more likely that Ash would finish third than it is that he would win the starting job.

    BU, TT and Kst all are virtual unknowns, but its just opinions here. The Kst backup to Klein aint too shabby though. We will see what it looks like after the spring............if Snyder speaks about it or allows any media in to look and write about anything.

    Can you put some details around your opinion of "better shape than what Texas has going"? What is that statement based on?

    The facts are simple:

    1. Texas returns both QB's on their two deep roster, and the other two that were redshirt freshmens last year.
    2. Texas QB's return the most wins of any QB's in the entire conference
    3. David Ash was the 4th rated QB in the Big 12 last year with a 153.3 QB rating
    4. David Ash is the top returning QB in the Big 12 in QB Rating, Completions, Attempts, Completion %, Yards, Yrds per attempt, TD's, and the big one - WINS!
    5. Case McCoy is the most experienced backup in the conference as a senior with several starts
    6. Texas / QB won 9 games last year and return every offensive lineman and available weapon that was critical to that success.

    Boykin had a QB rating of 126.4 and was 3-6 as a starter. He had the same amount of interceptions as Ash did with way less attempts and less starts. Pachall has been at Betty Ford.

    Please provide more "proof" around your statements about the QB compettition between Ash, Boykin and Pachall. Do you have any evidence at all why Ash would be 3rd to these guys? The stats point to the contrary.

    Baylor's problems weren't at QB or on offense. Florence was very good. He threw for 4300 yards, 33 tds vs 13 ints, and led the number 4 passing and scoring offense in the country.

    RG3's Heisman year = 4293 pass yards, 37 pass TD, 6 INT, 72.4% comp rate, 699 rush yards, 10 rush TD

    Florence last season = 4309 pass yards, 33 pass TD, 13 INT, 61.6% comp rate, 568 rush yards. 10 rush TD

    I would say Florence was way more than "overhyped and servicable" he put up numbers that rivaled the previous years Heisman winner...

    Maybe when you said "overhyped and servicable" you meant this guy?

    David Ash 2012 = 2699 pass yards, 19 pass TD, 8 INT, 67.3% comp rate, 141 rush yards, 2 rush TD

    Baylor's struggles were due to a porous defense, not Florence's level of play (4,300 yds, 33 TDs, 13 INTs). Texas' Holiday Bowl appearance was the complete opposite, with the defense doing it's best to drag the incompetant offense to wins

    He threw the ball around a lot, that's for sure... Texas fans would say that it all lands on the QB's shoulders.

    He didn't keep them from losing 5 games either. 7 interceptions in a 4 game losing stretch? 36.4 Completion % in their other loss?
