Avery Bradley on a roll

  • Tied his career high with 23 points in a win over Orlando tonight.

    Last 5 games--95 points (19 per game) on 60% shooting (39/65--11/16 on 3's)

    All of April--14.7 pts/game, 54.9% fg, 66.7% 3pt (!) (12 games)

Celtics are 12-4 since he was put in the starting lineup with 6 wins coming over teams that would make the playoffs today.

I watched him last night and thought he was great. One more year of school would have gotten him to this point faster IMO. I wish the situation wish Barnes and his comments about him could be settled and he could be like DJ, TJ and Kevin are thought of around here.

Love his game and tenacious attitude he plays with.

I think he made the right decision to go, also. He's making 1.5 mill this year, and is now headed for a large second contract in a couple of years.

  • He's finding his role with the C's nicely. Defensive lock down and corner 3s off kick outs.

A guy like Bruce Bowen figured that out and turned it into $30+ million.

Not saying anything about the money only saying that he would have been ready a lot quicker if he would have stayed another year.

Maybe, but we have no way of knowing whether that is true. For all we know, one could just as easily argue that he accelerated his growth as a player by getting acclimated to the speed of the NBA as a result of being involved in NBA practices and games starting in summer 2010.

twocents...guess I've never really understood the argument that staying an extra year in college makes a player more-ready for the NBA...college players have limited practice time, limited time with coaching, & must maintain academics

    NBA is full-time development

I understand fans wanting to get rid of the one-&-done rule...I'm all for a change to that rule...but just not sure part-time college practice & coaching helps with players development over leaving for the NBA

Which is also why I don't understand more kids don't opt for D-league out of high school. No, there isn't the fanfare and adulation one gets at a Div. I school with tournament aspirations, but the chance for round the clock training has to be worth something for a kid wanting to get on and move up the draft boards.

Because they are not ready, and maybe they never will be but, going to school for a year you get the lights and cameras for a year and then the draft. Then you get the money but it will be a few years before people find out if you are a bust or not. Going straight to the D league and not being a great player you end up with nothing.

Isn't the D league owned by the NBA and also enforces the one year out of high school before draft eligibility contained in the CBA?

That is why one or two kids have opted to go overseas and play for a year in some God awful professional league. There was a report on one who actually skipped his senior year of high school and later reports that he was not doing well in his professional endeavor. That wouldn't seem to be such a big surprise to most. If I remember correctly it took Moses Malone and Bryant a few years to be productive professional players. James is just a freak of nature that can't be compared to 99.999% of high school players. I would agree with you, most of them are better served to be in a structured environment for a year or two and see if they have the talent to attract draft status and the big bucks before going in. It would also be nice if they actually took a few financial classes and a life management class before going out. That might be too much to ask for though.

By the same token, by going to NCAA and not being a great player, then you end up not being drafted. Kids who join the D-league at 18 are not prevented from going into the NBA draft in the following year. Whether you go to college or to the D-league, you still have the chance to show for scouts and make an impression on them for your draft worthiness.

I don't dispute the value of a college education and degree if that is what the player wants to pursue, but if it isn't what he wants to pursue when he is 18, then D-league is more than an adequate option.

For anything except having a jillion fans throw themselves at you . . . or having coaches defend your right to shoot passersby with BB guns and the like . . . and marijuana tolerance is probably higher (no, that's not a pun) in colleges (like Oregon, maybe?). So there is all that, but none of that really seems directed to making oneself a better NBA player.

No, the D-league permits 18 year olds that have graduated or whose class has graduated.
