The team doesn't struggle every year on offense. They produce enough to win 2 CWS Championships and be in the final series 2 additional times in the last 15 years. That means 4 final appearances in 15 years, 8 CWS appearancees, and 8 Big 12 Championships.
Last years team was not a good offensive team but made the CWS. This team has been good at times on offense and bad at times. This team is just not very talented now and one reason is the injury situation..................IMHO

3. The number of scholarships are so limited in baseball 11.3 (I think) that teams typically have to decide to put more emphasis on hitting or pitching. The Longhorns have decided to focus on pitching. In addition, because of the spacious ballpark it's difficult to attract power hitters. Thus the Longhorns really are having a tough time attracting quality hitters.

austinr, even Auggie wouldn't bunt with two outs unless they're bunting for a hit and then it is almost always the hitter's decision. Also the percentages on bunting with one out are pretty small even in small ball. I do agree that Auggie has been very successful with his brand of ball and IMO can continue but think changes on the staff need to be made on the offensive side.

A lot of fans have been down on this squad this year. This obviously hasn't been Augie's greatest year but he has done more with less this year than any other IMO. Let's recap what Augie has had to deal with:
Injury Before Season:
Sam Stafford (Staff Ace LHP, Starter)
Cohl Walla (Starter CF)
Taylor Boardman (High School Ace, Potential Starting Pitcher/Relief)Done for Season:
Parker French (Starting Pitcher, Big 12 FOY) (Injury)
Ricky Jacquez (Starting Pitcher/ Relief) (Disciplinary)Missed Valuable Games:
Taylor Stell (Starter CF)Essentially he lost 1 for sure starter (his ace) and 1 potential starter or relief depth guy. Then when French establishes himself as the ace midway through the year, he gets lost for the season. At the same time, he loses a quality arm in Jacquez for disciplinary at the same time.
Keep in mind 6 out of 8 position starters are Sophomores or Freshman (Weiss, Payton, Felts, Silver, (sophomores) Marlow, Stell, (Freshman) with Walsh being a Junior. The best overall pitcher (Knebel) is a sophomore. This team is YOUNG and has been raided by the injury bug/disciplinary!
When your game evolves around pitching and defense, how do you lose 4 quality pitchers and expect to have the train just keep on rolling?
Yes, I agree. He does need to find a hitting coach. Look at the softball team for proof. They couldn't score 2 runs when Osterman was here. They went out and got a hitting coach and bam, they have 2 girls with the homerun and rbi records.
Let's beat Kansas at 12 pm, secure an NCAA tourney bid, and get this re-built train rolling!
