Ash isnt obviously better

  • Ash did not throw accurately in the Holiday bowl. His passes were all over the field and catches happened only because the receivers were so wide open. If he does not improve dramatically and he is the best we have we are in deep feces. God help us.

  • And yet Ash ended up throwing for two TDs and was named the Holiday Bowl MVP. I have a feeling the OPs posts will not improve like Ash's play did.

  • I don't think Ash knocked'em dead in the Holiday Bowl. But he didn't turn the ball over and he played better as the game wore on.

Texas can win a lot of games if he plays slightly better than that in 2012. They don't need Superman at the position.

  • I just recently re-watched the K-State game. Ash was on the verge of turning the corner in that game. There was a play where no one was open, he extended the play with his feet and found Irby for a first down with a nice accurate ball on the move to his right. Quickly thereafter (don't remember if it was the very next play or a couple of plays later) he had a similar situation -- nobody open, moves out of the pocket to his right, and tries to make a play with his arm. This time he wasn't accurate and K-State got an easy INT. That play earned Ash the hook.

The difference between the Holiday Bowl and the K-State game was that Ash didn't try to force that second play. I don't recall him ever making the good play that preceded the INT either. The hope is that this season he is able to make that accurate throw on the move when they need to move the chains while maintaining the wherewithal to avoid forcing a throw that's too risky. My guess is he does it.

BTW, for anyone who thinks of Case as the "smarter QB with moxie" I encourage you to watch the final drive of that K-State game. He was horrible in terms of throwing, decision making, and managing the clock.

  • You'd figure after he's been lurking for 10 months that he would have picked up some 'how to' on trolling. What a pathetic first attempt. It's like a 30 year old virgin who finally gets a shot with a chick and blows it on the hj.

There is stupid, and then there is STUPID!
Obviously the majority of this board thinks you are stupid for feeling this way. Actually posting this was STUPID.

The pass to Grant in the Cal game is the one that I remember being a real difference. He waited for the play to develop and stood tall in the pocket. He had not shown the ability to do that in a crucial situation prior to that IMO.

Absolutely, Bobby. And we all need to remember that Ash was a true freshman in that game with only a handful of starts behind him. It's not like the kid spent all summer/fall preparing to lead the team and then played the entire season only to have a lackluster performance in the bowl game. Quite the opposite.
