Are we ready to admit

  • That the Aggies have made a move to take this state?? ESPN will have them in the hearts of recruits from Texas all the way through Alabama.. What do you guys think??

  • They aren't going to "take this state", yet at least, but the days of Texas receiving commitments from 90% of their offers, and A&M receiving commitments from 0% of kids that Texas offered, are over. Every single in state kid will be a battle.

  • Yes. But we have an opportunity to take out K-State and gain some momentum ourselves. But no question they are going to be the hottest team in the country in recruiting, if they win out...

There are people who think we have a chance against KSU?

  • Didn't you hear? The aggies won a national championship last night by beating the #1 team. They are set to add it to their van and website

I think this is a pretty accurate statement.

  • take the state? no
make Texas work harder on the recruitin trail? absolutely
win 2013/2014 battles with Texas? more likely

but I think people are overreacting a bit.
first, aggy has some great players right now, and they landed those players when Texas was kicking their ass in recruiting; therefore it stands to reason that even if aggy gets more of a share of recruits, there is enough talent in this state, Texas just has to be better at evaluating and developing talent.
second, aggy will need to continue winning, as flavors of the month often build up excitement but can lose it quickly if they do not have sustained success.

There were people outside of College Station that thought A&M could beat Alabama? This is college football. If you prepare yourselves well enough, anything can happen. K-State will have so much pressure on them to win, as a trip to the 'ship will be on the line. So yes, I believe that if everything goes right for Texas, we have a chance to beat K-State...

  • Ags 2013 class is big and may be almost set, 2014 is the telling year. When you compare UT to the Ags this year it is their defense that has been the biggest surprise. Their offense and defensive lines have been strong.

  • Recruits still have to live in College Station for 4 years and be subjected to 1.5 million stupid pagan rituals. I don't think they are going to be a factor going forward.

Their season highlights how having a good offensive line opens up an offensive playbook. We need to get tougher up front.

  • Agree, aggies have recruiting momentum, play in the premier conference, national TV exposure, tons of excitement while we get raped in the Cotton Bowl and hide out on a network that nobody sees and most don't care about. We need a win against K St to get some "mo" going for ourselves.

  • The amount of hyperbole that I keep reading after one game is unreal.

After the 2005 National Championship, UT was going to go on a winning streak the likes of which had never been seen. How'd that turn out?

Rumors going into this year were that Texas was on the verge of another championship run, while internal turmoil was about the bring the OU program to its knees. Well?

Alabama could compete with NFL teams. Until yesterday.

The Aggies might be getting better. But lets get some perspective. The Horns will be fine. There are too many players out there, to go along with scholarship limits. No one team is going to utterly dominate in this day and age.

The allure of playing with a probable future Heisman winner, as well as the best player to ever play at A&M, under a black head coach, in the premier conference (this is how they see it), will far outweigh the advantage Austin is over College Station.

For East Texas kids, the advantage goes to College Station and the "small town" vibe. A&M has an absurd amount of momentum in Houston. David Beaty is a great recruiter in Dallas, and he will have A&M in every kids' head, even though the culture shock from Dallas to CS is pretty big.

  • first off, i don't know why some are surprised by the farmers win. the bottom line is the top schools in the B12 have been able to run with the top teams of the SEC for a while. i don't want to diminish the SEC in any way, but i have been for a while a firm believer that the SEC is not for and above superior to the B12 irrespective of what we hear week in and week out from espn and other media outlets. so the fact that the farmers are playing well in the SEC should not be that surprising.

now it terms of recruiting, sure this will help the farmers. but in my view the real issue is all about us. what does our guys do, not the farmers. if our guys win and win a lot, then we are going to continue to get top recruits. we have most of the advantages; best facilities, better city of the two, tradition, etc. so from my seat if the farmers do start dominating us in recruiting, it will because of mistakes that Mack and our guys make first and foremost.

The hype around this kid is absurd. As a freshman he will make the trip to New York and receive votes, and then be squarely in the mix to win it the next three years.

No, because it's going to take more than one game for them to establish the sort of trend you suggest in your post. Granted, it's a big win for their program, but I would also argue that the SEC is in a "down" year with respect to the quality of teams they have faced or will in the next few weeks. Their record appears more impressive IMO than it really is on paper. Arkansas, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri and then out of conference opponents such as, La Tech, South Carolina State, Sam Houston State and SMU are not exactly scaring the hell out of anyone today. Now, if A&M can establish a trend where it starts knocking off the "big names" in the SEC on a consistent basis (Lsu, Florida and Alabama), then that's a different story. Arkansas and Auburn you would have to think are also not going to stay "down" for too long. Texas will continue to get quality recruits as long as we keep winning and we ensure that the OU/Texas series doesn't start getting out of hand again as it has for the past two games. We certainly have to address that in the near future, but I still think Texas holds the advantage in the near future as long as our coaches work hard on the trail as I would expect them too.
