All-Time Top 10: Quarterbacks

Looked it up. Simms threw 4 picks against Oregon. We had two non-offensive TDs that kept us in that one.

can you also look up how many 4Q TDs were dropped in the endzone?

  • Marty Akins better than Chris Simms? No.

  • LOL,

clearly you didn't watch the oregon game if you are trying to spin Simms' play wasn't very good.

  • You lose when your QB throws 4 interceptions. Our offense scored 14 points. Our defense and special teams scored 16.

Has Texas ever won a game when the QB threw 4 picks?

On what planet is a 4 pick game a good one?

Favre is bound to have one.

  • I firmly believe Peter should be on the Top 10 list. He wasn't suppose to do the things he did during his tenure at Texas.

  • I spent a couple hours chatting with Marty Akins at a political function once and I asked him what made his reputation as a tough guy. He pointed at his father, Coach Ray Akins and said that no son of his dad's would ever be anything other than tough. He told me "If you had one single ounce of quit in you, my dad would find it."

Speaking of tough, griity QBs, James Brown played a game against A&M where he came into the game beat all to hell and simply willed UT to the win over the Aggies. He and Marty had a lot in common.

Duke Carlisle was a heck of a football player, but UT used three or four QBs while he was at UT, but IMO he was clearly better as a DB. Just ask Don Trull, Baylor's All American QB. Duke did to him what Michael Griffin did to Matt Leinert.

"I've heard some of our fans say, 'We were always an SEC school. We just didn't know it," athletic director Bill Byrne said.

  • VY won us a championship, but I believe he and Colt should be tied as the # 1 QB at Texas.

No disrespect to Colt but he belongs at number 2. No matter the reason he did not win and NC and Vince did and that will always seperate the two.

It's not important but I disagree... playing back in the day of two way players is more reason he should be on the list just as a player on the "most athletic" list should have more consideration who excelled at multiple sports. the fact that he is not on the list ahead of Donnie Little when he had as many wins as Vince Young along with a national championship just seems odd, and that isnt a slam against Little in the least.

The rules were complicated back then. I never played beyond high school due to injury (and maybe a lack of talent) but it was my era. It is true that UT had to play several at the qb position then due to limited substitution. As I remember if you left you could not re enter the same quarter. They changed the rules each year and yes it is a long time ago. Bobby and crew have done a great job in all their lists. The soldier and I seem on the same page as far as Duke. He was the qb that lead Ut to its first National Championship and he was 30-2-1 (they had ties back during those day). He rose up to beat Navy and Roger. The media thought Navy would win easily.
He was the leader on the field and off. That is why I believe he belongs.
