If Alabama lost to a top 5 team, I can understand them going from 1 to 4. But come the fff on, they lost to a, at-the-time, #15 team. Bama should be bottom half of top ten.

But they lost to an SEC team which is always much harder to do so its a quality loss.

I know they'll never do it, but I'm just sick of the bias. The past few years it's been an SEC bias. Before that it was BCS busters like Boise, Utah, and TCU - all teams that would be underdogs to a lot of the teams beneath them. The new 4 team playoff format will make it somewhat fairer but won't really do anything to eliminate the bias.

Even Kent State gets to partake of the SEC bias. They make it to 25 but lost to Kentucky. Thats a quality loss.

I have a question...if Texas wins out...would it screw itself out of the Cotton Bowl to play A&M or LSU? It would take KState out of the national title game...would this push down OU to the Cotton or would they also get an at Large? This would be messed up if true...cost everyone in the conference too. thanks in advance.

I've been thinking the same thing. I don't want to bump K St out of the National Championship game only to let Alabama sneak back in.

  • I wish there could be a concensus on a set of basic rules for how far a team rises or drops in the polls, regardless of the school's conference affiliation. For example, a higher ranked team should automaticly drop below the team they lost to, which means Bama should be behind Aggie, regardless! Therefore never lose to a lower ranked opponent, a real punishment & correct the bias of conference affiliations.

  • Patience, my children.

First, take care of your business on the field.

    Second, the playoff is coming.

Lastly, act like OU means something more than if you were playing Kansas.

  • SEC has five teams in Top 10, six in top 12. I'd give anything for us to play in the Sec. aggy made a good move, bothers me to say that. Looks like they made a good hire too. IMO we need to find a way to beat K St, think we would have a chance if we were playing at home in good weather. We played them tough last year but our defense has had a significant downturn and their offense has improved.

  • We're ranked one whole spot above that bastion of football, La Tech. Aggots over performing, UT under performing for the 3rd year in a row. Time to give Mack and Manny a raise. That'll fix the problem!

Vegas doesn't pick winners. They set lines that get action on both sides. Big difference.

What is the difference? Vegas is just the stock market of sports. Bettors place money on bets they believe will win. Final line is essentially the consensus of the betting world.

Vegas lines are public perception. I agree with the poster that thinks using Vegas lines would make a better top-25 than the AP voters.

  • This is why rankings have no place in a real playoff world. There should be a qualifying goal period. Otherwise, not this poll, but others end up in the equation. I'm sorry, but you can't just keep playing SEC shuffle every year.
