A third game on LHN

  • So, in essence, this is a third swift kick to the nads.

I know it is not a rational question, but what might happen if all UT fans were to state that they would switch to the first cable company to offer LHN?

If 100,000 people signed a petition, it might get someone's interest.

  • I hear those of you that say "I'm okay with 3 games on LHN, it will be worth it in the long run". Well, I'm not one of you, even if I understand the point you are making.

This situation pisses me off to no end. I live out of state and before LHN it had been many years since I missed a game. I travel once a year to see a game - and that is about all I can do. I want ESPN to drop the price so that we can get to a deal quickly. Prove your product and then ask for the premium price. I don't care...I just want it over because I'm excited about the season and the thought of missing 3 games really, really pisses me off.

  • I think ESPN and even to some degree the Longhorn brass are attempting to go farther with the LHN than initially contemplated and it is potentially to the detriment of the university.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by that?

I think three football games on a network virtually no one can see hurts Texas football. I think it hurts Texas football significantly, particularly nationally at this time.

I'll be able to see every Alabama, Southern Cal and Notre Dame game this year on DirecTV. Not Texas. Same with every major sportswriter/media personality.

    Got it now...and completely agree.

Texas got beat a much better team, the officiating line is BS

Not really. BU was the better team. We turned tha ball over. Often. Non of that offsets the manner in which the game was called. Baylor didn't need any help to beat us. They got it anyway in the name of getting Griffin and the conference the Heisman. Rewatch the game and see how late hits out of bounds weren't called, holding was allowed at a TTU08 level and borderline plays were called against UT. I.e the Irby TD that was called out despite his foot being well in bounds.

You're blind if you don't think that sort of thing happens all the time. And yeah, we've been the beneficiary of it a few times as well. KSU was rank incompetence. BU had intent.

Actually, not in the least. It will have little if any effect in the short run and zero effect in the long run. In fact, this will be the best thing that ever happened to Texas, including Texas football.

They overturned this one. It counted.

using Directv as an example it has 31 million customers and that is just one provider.

They sign up about 88000 subscribers per quarter and are seeing huge growth in foreign countries.

Not sure that moved the needle a centimeter.

I know it did. Watch the replay if you have it available. The official is on the spot and watches Irby's shoe touch down at least a foot in bounds. It wasn't borderline. It wasn't close. He watched it happen, waited a moment and then called it off. Thank God for replay or it wouldn't have be made right.

The point is not that the officials beat us. They didn't. The point is that they were ensuring BU didn't just beat us, but beat a name program, one that had just pulled off a miracle in College Station, by enough to ensure Griffin received the hardware. It was on purpose, and it was egregious. You'll notice that it's the only game last year outside of KSU, which was well established Big XII officiating idiocy in action, that I'm calling out for emphasis. Before that TTU 08 was bad. The first half of Mizzou 05 was out of control. This is not calling out every loss as bad officiating. This is not even calling out officiating for the loss. As I said, this had intent.

    I'll say no more.

I'd sign a petition but I really wouldn't change from Uverse to Comcast if Comcast got it.

Look man, I'm not one of those dudes who refuses to ever blame officials. I firmly believe that the officials screwed us out of the KSU game last year.

But the Baylor game was all on us. The officials didn't give up a 60 yard bomb on the second play. The officials didn't throw four picks. The officials didn't lose two fumbles.

I'd bet that there is no other human being on this planet that turned that game off cursing the officials. They were an afterthought, and a perfectly officiated game would have led to a similar result. The only thing that could have changed that outcome was a healthy stable of RBs.

And for the record, the Irby catch was miraculous because it didn't seem possible that he could get his foot down in time. He did, and they eventually got it right, but I can't blame anyone for initially missing that call. It was an amazingly acrobatic play.
