A third game on LHN

  • I am told that the third game that could be on the Longhorn Network is the Baylor game.

Last year's game against Texas gave Baylor's Robert Griffin the platform to win the Heisman Trophy. He, of course, deserved it after such a phenomenal year. But doing it late in the year, against Texas, put distance between him and other contenders.

But the real reason that this contest could move to the Longhorn Network centers around a cable carrier, one of the few who carry the Longhorn Network, Grande Communications.

Grande has a fairly significant distribution in the Waco area, whereas there are no other carriers who have a significant carriage of the Longhorn Network in other Big 12 cities.

I am not saying this has happened or that it necessarily will happen. But it is being discussed and I think it's further along than some people may realize.

God knows we didn't help ourselves in that game, but Baylor was allowed every possible advantage to win it and give Griffin the chance to separate himself for the Heisman. Probably the most poorly officiated game I've seen since Mizzou '05, and that includes the hose job against KSU.

As for the game being on the LHN, sounds like I'll be tuning into justintv.

4 INTs eliminates any talk of bad officiating.

Texas got beat a much better team, the officiating line is BS

  • Well, at least the game is being played on Oct. 20 this year instead of at the end of the season. There won't be immediate conference implications on the outcome. Still disappointing, though.

  • Cool Robbie Rhodes can watch on TV as Ash throws for 400 yards and six TD's to freshman WR Kendall Sanders, thus making him question his commitment to Baylor.
    Oh wait...nevermind...
    He can't watch.

Bobby, do you know if there is some clause in the agreement between the University and ESPN that requires Texas to put a certain number of its football games on LHN regardless of distribution? It seems to me that DeLoss and Powers could be putting the pressure on ESPN by not agreeing to do that until more carriers are added. This thing just makes me sick. Adding one more game is not going to do anything but piss off the fans even more. Unless one of the big carriers decides to come on board, there is absolutely no incentive for them to move and pick up LHN. I just don't understand the rationale behind this other than the University kowtowing to ESPN.

  • It's some bullshit that I pay 140.00 per month with AT&T U-Verse and get no LHN, yet my cheap ass friend has boot legged cable in his trailer home and has LHN.. -___-

It's time for you to learn a lesson from you friend.

$140?!?!?! a month on cable? Seriously?! That's ONLY 84K over the next 50 years if you have no price escalations (good luck).

I think the contract says the University would give best efforts to provide 1 or 2 football games a year on the network. Beyond that, it'll be up to the TV folks to decide distribution because LHN would have to buy pass-through rights from Fox to not select the game.

You are going to win many games when your starting QB throws more completions and T.D.'s to the defense than to his receivers.

Hey, we get LHN at home (Verizon) but my wife and guests still doesn't get to see the games when we are in Austin and tailgating in our coach at the Foundation RV lot (I'm in DKR watching) !! So, I guess I'm paying and still don't get to see on LHN. Massively not cool !!

  • I know it is not a rational question, but what might happen if all UT fans were to state that they would switch to the first cable company to offer LHN?
