5* TE Nick O'Leary Chances?

  • I know I read somewhere that Nick O'Leary was interested in Texas. I know people throw out "I'm interested" a lot in recruiting, but what are the chances of

    1. The Staff going after him? It seems like after the ASJ thing, they would be reserved. However, we really need a great TE

    2. Nick taking a visit? Just because he says he's interested, how interested?

Right now, obviously, my expectations are low on this happening unless he personally makes an effort to get the ball started.

    any thoughts?

  • Texas has not made contact with Nick O'leary to this point. Nick O'leary hasn't made contact with Texas either.

As for if he would have interest, yes he would, but he is expected to stay close to home at the end of the day.

On Nick O'leary, he is a special talent at tight end. One of the best players in the country regardless of position. I've seen him three or four times and he has the best hands in the 2011 class I've seen. Not just a pass catcher, but a tough, hard nosed complete tight end. A terrific prospect.

  • Gerry -- Just curious...do you know if he has a leader at this point?

    MBarnett

  • Thanks Gerry

I just miss the good old days of David Thomas and Jermichael Finley when we had a serious threat at TE. Again, Barret Mathews could be good this year but until then, he is an unknown.

I guess I agree that at the end of the day, he will stay close to home.

Was thought to be Florida State when I was down there a few weeks back. He was at Florida's Friday Night Lights, but they are said to be down the list and have TE AC Leonard committed.

FSU, Miami and Georgia are heard the most. He doesn't talk to many people about recruiting stuff, but we have a great guy in that area with 247Sports.com in Luke Stampini. His SoFlo site is now up and running with the network.

I went to their camp a few weeks back and that is an impressive staff. They have some big hits in recruiting thus far and i expect that to continue. They are also evaluating very well for me. Their RB commit Devonta Freeman is terrific and very underrated. He has exceptional feet in the hole and a perfect RB body type.

Speaking of FSU's haul, do you see James Wilder at RB or LB ultimately?

That and a senior that has a great year that finds their way onto the Longhorn staff radar/back on the radar. Agree.

Very similar prospect to Sergio Kindle, except not quite as good of a HS RB. OLB all the way for me.

  • i feel the same way, u think is a thing that could hold him back, like thinking he is a running back instead of focusing on his best position( kind of like melton)

  • FSU may be on the way back in terms of recruiting, but Jimbo Fisher hasn't done much to impress as a coach at FSU. It will be interesting to what the program looks like this year. I'd be pleased as punch to see them shock OU.

  • Will the staff actually pursue him? I just get the feeling that this will go nowhere. I know absolutely nothing but I cant see us coming in late and being a big player. Texas seems to recruit OOS players that recruit them.

He has made Ponder a very good qb. There offense was not the problem when Ponder was healthy. I dont know how he will do as a HC but, if nothing else he is breathing life back in to a sleeping giant.
