5* Ricardo Gathers to Baylor (Basketball)

  • Hmmm, there have been plenty of schools that have gone to the Elite Eight that haven't blown up in recruiting like Baylor especially since they followed it up with an 18-13 season. No history of NCAAs before that (NIT the year before and out in the NCAA in the 1st rd before that). Maryland won the entire thing and never has recruited like Baylor. Marquette doesn't recruit at this level (even after DWade), Butler doesn't do it (after two Finals).

Tom Penders first McD's AA (Texas' first??) was Clack after he had gone to the NCAAs (including an EE) 5 out of the 6 years before. Clack was a local kid (so were Axtell and Mihm). Texas had to build this program from the ground up recruiting Texas before trying to recruit nationally. TJ Ford was a Texas kid. Not even remotely close to Drew's "rebuilding" where he's pulling guys from CA and NC to Waco.

Drew is recruiting on par with Calipari, Self, Williams, Coach K at Baylor with only two NCAA appearances to his name. Maybe he's outworking the older guys, but if you think Drew is somehow outworking Brad Stevens or has a better resume to sell or better tradition, well........

And he doesn't have the name recognition of a Pitino or Calipari coming back to the college ranks.

Just so we have ALL of the facts straight regarding comparing Texas basketball vs BAY basketball...don't want this to be any kind of gray area...but for the next generation or so, men's basketball at Baylor University will START with MURDER...& the head coach that tried to cover up his cheating by calling the MURDERED player a drug dealer

At the time of this MURDER, I was an Intel Analyst for the Texas Dept of Public Safety, working directly for the lead detectives on the case, and apart of the search for Patrick Dennehy...I know more about this case than the BAY mods and/or posters coming over to compare programs...so just to be very clear, it's Baylor University that had 1 player MURDER another player over a drug argument in the middle of a farm, leaving his body in a shallow pit...& the HC trying to lie his way out of any cheating that went on during his tenure...yes, Carlton Dotson had his problems, but the enitre program was spiraling out of control due to Dave Bliss

Before ANY Baylor mod and/or poster starts throwing around CHEATING accusations against any school, lets just remember which school had a MURDER involved because that program was so out of control...now I'm sure the various Baylor mods or posters will throw out their own excuses as rebuttal

And how many people involved in that are still at Baylor? Zero is the answer, and to you or me yes we will remember the murder since it happened during our adulthood.

It was almost a decade ago though, and like I said these new recruits that are 18 years old were 8-9 years old when that happened. Therefore it didn't even register on their radar and isn't thought about by them when considering a school.

this is valid if Dave Bliss were still coaching the Bears.

Did I just read that correctly? All of those programs all PASSED on LJ Rose. Rose is a good fundamentally sound player and I, but I seriously question if he has the athletic ability, vertical, and quickness to hang in the Big 12.

Rykhoek is a Clint Chapman clone.

Austin is going to be a stud with more strength, but he needs major weightroom work and tends to disappear for long stretches in HS games.

Gathers is a brute with little game outside of 5 feet but he's good.

Penn St will always be known for the Sandusky problems, even when everybody involved is gone...Baylor is no different when it comes to the Dennehy murder

To you and those that want to use it as a grounds for justifying your views on Baylor yes it will always be an issue, but if you are trying to say it affects the way 18 year old kids look at Baylor then you are wrong.

Quincy Miller wanted to play with Duece Bello and only two schools offered both, Louisville and Baylor..... They chose Baylor over Louisville.

Thanks for making our point for us. Wth chooses Baylor over Louisville??? When did your program become the more nationally known. It makes perfect sense for an OOS 5* kid to choose Baylor over Louisville.

Even if I didn't know all the things that I know, the one thing I would know after reading this sentence is that you are amazingly ignorant of college basketball recruiting.

I still disagree about NCAA, UCONN, is banned from tournament in 2013. They are appealing that but they also got a scholarship taken away. Anyway that is not the point what I am saying is that it should not take this long for NCAA to look at Baylor. In fact it shouldn't take 2 seconds to look at Baylor considering all that happended the last time. They should be on the ground looking for any type of cheating right away considering what there last coach did. We have yet to see any response from the NCAA and that is troubling.

Did I just read that correctly? .

    Yep,

Look at this year's class. Duke only has Rasheed (still waiting for Tony Parker). Perry Ellis is Kansas' top recruit. Kentucky is Archie Goodwin right now and UNC has Marcus Paige. Baylor's class is definitely better on paper than these 4 classes. (feel free to call me out on a one year blip but the statement is accurate for this year).

Why would Miller and Bello choose Louisville over Baylor when Angel Nunez and Wayne Blackshear were already committed? It would have been a crowded class, when Baylor was making them top priority.

Once again, if you know about all these terrible things Baylor is doing then come out publicly and give hard evidence to a reporter or give hard evidence to the NCAA. The NCAA hasn't gotten off Baylor's back since 2003 and the worst thing they have found is some text messages.

Goodwin, Poythress, and Cauley for UK are all going to be STUDS!

Coach K and Cal are both still after Shabazz. Cal is also after Anthony Bennett, Devonta Pollard, and is probably the favorite to land Nerlens Noel since he reclassified.

Duke doesn't have a lot of scholarship flexibility(like how Texas will be next year) but Sulamoin is a STUD and Parker and Shabazz are damn good options, since they may be a package(although unlikely).

Kansas landed Peters who was the #1 recruit in the class at one point but others caught up to him combined with the fact that he didn't play AAU ball. They also have Landen Lucas who is a very solid player, as well as Anrio Adams who is a scoring machine. Add to that Andrew White, who Barnes wanted on the wing, and that is a pretty solid class.

UNC is good at what they do as they like to get four year career players. Brice Johnson is a STUD that is a Henson clone, and he is skinny so he'll probably take time for his body to grow just like Henson is still doing(or trying to do). Marcus Paige I the best point guard in the class, hands down. Joel James is a monster inside, and will find ways to contribute immediately. Tokoto was a guy who was highly touted earlier in his high school career, but seemed to fall late in the cycle as people realized he is more of an athlete than polished player. Still, he is perfect for the Carolina fast break system. And UNC likes to have one class of mid top 100 guys, and follow it with a bunch of top of the line players. They already have Hicks and Britt committed for next year and they are on Anya, Randle, Frazier, etc.

Drew landed a big man that is skilled, but soft, and settles for jumpers. I know he may have the highest ceiling of anyone in the class, but Jeff Goodman of CBS talks all the time about how Austin has never played good when he has seen him live. He seems to be like a PJIII clone. Rose is a point guard that half the country passed on after he got more and more exposure(& after his injury). Texas, UNC, UCLA all could have landed him, but all moved on. Gathers is a man beast, and I'm jealous Drew landed him after we were his #2 when he committed to St. John's. He doesn't have great size, so he'll probably be a 3--4 year player for the Bears. He dominates the boards and is a little more versatile than some think. He's a little more polished offensively than Acy, but a little less athletic and not as good of a shot blocker. And from what I have read and heard about Ryhoek(too lazy to look back at spelling) the more he sounds like a solid bench player that just comes in and stretches the floor with his outside shooting from the PF spot.

Yeah, because Bello is getting sooooo much playing time at Baylor, right?

Dancing Bear, you know Baptist never cheat in public. Hard for the NCAA to catch them .
