Mesquite Poteet sophomore OLB Malik Jefferson (6-2/210) was named a first-team 4A All-State selection by the AP today. His regular season stats were 92 tackles, 20 TFL, 7 sacks, 5 FF and 4 blocked kicks.

I didn't know anything about him until looking through the all-state list released today and then watching his film. I think he has a chance to be big-time but I've never talked to him.

Oh my. That kid is very good. Assuming his vitals are exaggerated, and he's really closer to 6'1" 190-200, it'll be interesting to see how he grows. Engaging, disengaging, and making the tackle comes about as natural as breathing for him though. Well-coached kid, or an easy to coach kid it appears.
