I need to wait until signing deadline is over with July 13.

Then I can see where all the guys will fit into the puzzle.

    Does Walsh sign?

  • I think Walsh is gone. Not much reason to stick around IMO. Montalbano fills a HUGE need. And of course Hinojosa looking like he'll make it to campus is the best news the program could get.

  • Anyone think that a position move would be good for Weiss? I would like to see him moved to the OF or 1B. Strictly to improve our defense would be the rationale.

    C Felts
    1B Weiss
    2B TBD -
    SS TBD -
    3B TBD -
    LF Walsh
    CF Stell
    RF Payton
    DH Walla

    SP Thornhill
    SP French
    SP Curtiss
    SP D.Peters

    CL Knebel

If the Horns find a better defensive 3rd baseman..........moving Weiss to 1st is an outstanding idea. We know the Horns must get better up the middle defensively. If we don't solve that problem this team will looks the same as the 2012 squad...............

  • Walsh was picked in the 11th round. He has shown improvement over the last few years, but was just a .280 hitter.

Good possibility that he could increase his draft stock and $$$ with another year at Texas.

Has he already signed a contract or something? I don't understand why Walsh would leave to be honest.

I agree that Weiss prolly won't move, but to be honest - he really should.

Silver as a given at 1B means we could continue to not swing the ball well. I like his glove, but I would hope they try to upgrade their offense without hurting their defense next year. A .267 hitter at 1B could be improved IMO.

  • Also, what about Milner? I thought the guy should have been our ace on the staff this year (once Stafford went down.) When it was all said and done, I think he made a strong case for that spot. If he were to stick around for his Senior year, I would love to see him lead the rotation as our #1 guy. He did well last year in the starting rotation as well.

I do understand that he was draft pretty high though.

For me Walsh is the classic example of an athlete who SHOULD stay one more year but I like Don I think he is gone. He is an "all bus" athlete............he looks the part but I wonder if he ever makes it to the big leagues. He was better at the plate this year no doubt but he is undisciplined at times. He has average speed at best..........if he could have continued to play catcher he would have a chance to make it to the big leagues. (IMHO) But while not a defensive liability is not great with the glove.

Milner is probably gone. No reason to come back.

  • Pitching staff should be solid. Silver second year should help and I expexct stell to be 330 guy with 20 sbs. wahla is ok and payton solid. Going to have great speed and range in of. If felts continues to improve and weiss stays steady the focus will be on ss and 2b. Marlow should improve....surely we can find one decent minf to complete lineup.

We are going to be good...I sound like aggsy

    hornseagles1

  • I would still like them to give Weiss a look at 1B.

Also, Marlow hit under .100 against lefties (could be wrong but I saw a stat) this year. That is horrible. How the hell is he playing for Texas if that is reality. Especially if you consider the fact that he was an everyday player.

I hope that Hinojosa can take over 2nd, and Silver competes for the SS position myself. Sad to say that I really have no idea what this lineup is going to look like. Not a lot positive to consider from this years team.

C Felts, improving but not a solid batt yet. Fine on defense.
1B Silver was good on defense, but is he going to be better than a .275 hitter in college?
2B Marlow? Horrible offensive production, and a middle of the road fielder this year.
    SS TBD
3B Weiss, best bat on the team, but a liability on defense. Time to look at him at 1B or OF
OF Walsh, I hope he stays as he can be a real leader as a Senior and improve on his earning potential in the bigs
OF Stell, interested to see what he can do with a full season. Great player unless he has the Sophomore slump.
OF Payton, great across the board... offense and defense
Walla? Who knows really? Great freshmen year, but mediocre since.

We shall see, but I am worried about this returning team and think we should upgrade defense at 2B, SS, 3B and on offense at 1B, 2B, SS..

    chupita

  • I think we can put Hinojosa in at SS if he's healthy.
