***** Official Texas-West Virginia game thread (FINAL)******

  • The one constant theme I think you could always say about Texas teams -2005 is they lack a toughness, an attitude, a swagger - whatever you want to call it.

That starts at the top from me. Players take on the attitude of their coach/coaches. You see how Harbaugh changes the dynamics of his teams. That is still missing after all these years at Texas and I have learned to accept it and just roll the dice with the talent they have.

You can see it on the defense where they are thinking too much with these spread teams. They are very much like Manny in that way as he almost over analyzes things.

It's not a call to fire Mack but more of a realist point of view.

Can blame Manny all you want, Harsin was worse tonight.

you are out of your mind.

do you think the offense should score on every possession? do you think the defense should get more than 3 stops a game?

do you think a coordinator might adjust his own stubborn schemes to accommodate his personnel?

Maybe not any better but worse. Haha you must be related to him.

Sorry shnsajax, the O still scored 38 points and could have been 48 had Fera been either a half-decent kicker. His body language before and after the kick spoke volumes, like he expected to miss.

Anytime an O scores 38 points, you should win, the problem was that the D could not stop my 97 year old grandma, so really to expect them to stop a back up running back and a heisman quality QB is kinda setting your expectations too high.

Ok the offense just scored 45 points. Any dumb ass that wants to pin this on the offense step on up.

The game is not on the offense, but the play calling immediately following the 2nd fumble recovery drove me insane. With all the momentum in the world, we come out and run behind an 8 man line twice (with Joe B, no less) for a grand total of 3 yards.

That was the time to go for the throat, IMO. We did them a favor by trying to run over them instead of stretching them out.

Obviously the execution of the 3rd down snap was the ultimate killer (of the drive, and eventually the game) but we wasted a huge opportunity there.

  • We had lots of chances. This is the one that got away. WVU D is better than ours and I NEVER would have thought our D would suck like this. Makes me sick to my stomach. Liking Ash. Keep telling myself that.

  • When Texas didn't get a TD on the first drive of the second half i knew it was gonna be tough to win, because against this WV team you have to stay ahead.

why were you confident about OU? that's insane. Manny can't find his ass with both hands, he can't take care of one dimensional teams much less teams that can do more than one thing.

That's a pretty dumb comment, don't you think? He managed to take care of an OSU team that can do more than one thing. You think ou is better than OSU? I don't. But before tonight I had at least some confidence in the Texas defense. After tonight, I have none.

I'm a defensive guy and know that I default to defending the defense but that was a completely awful exhibition. I do believe that Diaz is the worst defensive coordinator we've had simply because of the talent vs. production. He does not put players in positions to succeed.

We knew when Diaz was hired it was a gamble. After last year some people wanted to name him UT HC in waiting and give him a life time contract. The truth is he is probably too young and inexperienced to be at a job like Texas.

In addition after a great game last week and a really good first half Harsin had a bad half with his play calling.............

yes, our coronation of Searels has been a bit premature, too. there's a reason why he left Georgia.

  • Where was the passing game/deep passes? WVU pass defense ranked 118th and we don't test that!

Ok the offense just scored 45 points. Any dumb ass that wants to pin this on the offense step on up.

The offense scored 38, and left at least 10 point on the field with bad snaps, missed FGs etc. - the WV defense played better, but we were too conservative on offense (where were the downfield throws)
Not saying the defense played well.. they gave up 48 and giving up the TD in the end was a killer blow - it looks like they sold out to stop the WRs (and they did for the most part), and didnt expect their RB to produce as well as he did.
but they set the offense up with premium field position where we did not capitalize - we score a TD there and its a different game (atleast we have the ball at the end)

This was a team loss... we were good enough to win the game, actually tackled better on D than the OSU game (after starting slow again), won the turnover margin, but left points on the field.
Just hope we grow from this experience

he's gone. he's been horrible, he was horrible last year. he's right twice a season (a*m and ????), but his schemes are fundamentally unsound and Art Briles, Gundy, and now Holgerson laugh at his ambition.

  • There were gaps all over the defense. No matter where they brought the pressure from. That has to be on manny. Not being in position. What a crappy game. Not the way I wanted to go into the red river shoot out.....but I pegged this as one of our losses sucks that we blew plenty of chances to win.

    HookemTx53

  • THE difference in the game is that they can stop the run and we can't. Whatever the reason is, scheme or whatever, they can stop the run and we got gashed all night.

I think Searles has worked a minor miracle with the deck he was dealt. I put that series on Harsin.

He telegraphed the first two plays based on the formation. I couldn't believe my eyes when we lined up the same way on 2nd down and DIDN'T try a play action pass.

  • Yeah, I bet these are all the moral victories Mack will be talking about come Monday, don't change the fact that shit still stinks! And Texas D is shit on the field.

  • After the second fumble I was hoping for Monroe to come in and at least get us 7 yrds on the 1st down. Love Joe B power inside the 5 but not twice outside the 10 for damn 3 yards.

You touched on something that has nothing to do with play calling but personnel. Watch that first play again and look to the right. There was an acre of land that any back with vision would have seen. The play call and execution was good. The personnel choice was regrettable.

Bergeron should not take snaps from Brown, Gray or Daje. He's not that good.
