MODS - I will pay extra this year IF

  • you guys drop the idea on Harsin & Major about the idea of running a few plays this year out of the old Mackovic pro set split back formation. You put MB and JB in split back formation and run traps about 4 or 5 times a game. The defenses will have no way to key off either back and boom we have a winner. Just a few times a game is all I'm asking for.

You guys have some pull with Harsin and Major I'm sure. Just drop the suggestion for me and then tell me how much I owe you guys.

  • I loved JM's offense. He was a pompus ass and didn't know a think about D but he schemes on offense were awesome.

the guy absolutely knew how to run a heck of an offense. unfortunately his offensive skills couldn't offset his faults.

can you imagine some combination of MB, JB and JG running in that split back formation? we wouldn't even have to run it as our base O; just run it a few times each half. the defenses would never know what hit them...

  • Mackovic also called some dreadful games. The debacle against Baylor was unforgiveable. He outthought himself too frequently.

which baylor game; the one that was Teaff's last game and the officials gave him the game as a going away present?

The BU game in Coach Mackovic's first year was the worst officiating I've ever seen at any level.............Baylor would have beaten the 85 Bears that year with those calls. It was a shame too because it cost Texas a bowl game that year.

Mackovic's offense looked like Tom Landry's offense...............when it was on it was a thing of beauty.

1997, his last year. We are playing in Waco. Ricky has been lighting the bears up all game. 200+ yards. We're driving because Ricky is running like a hoss. We cross midfield. Mackovic decides to throw on 1st and 2nd down instead of continuing to let Ricky gut the Bears like a perch. Both throws are incomplete. Third down and ten and he hands off to Ricky. He gets something like 8 yards. It is 4th and 2, we miss a 54 yard field goal and lose the game.

i never have been one of those conspiracy theorist about sports (well except about maybe some things that occur in the NBA occasionally) but i swear after that particular baylor game i left that stadium that day with 100% confidence that someone in power made the decision that Teaff was not going out a loser. even though we clearly didn't help ourselves in that game at times, it was still nothing but highway robbery plain and simple.

beeve.............I think that's a bad rap or example. How many carries did Ricky have in that game 35-40? He touched the ball over 50% of the time.

I would however agree the game was no thing of beauty. What I remember is the Baylor fans tearing down the goal posts..........they just beat a team that finished 4-7!

  • You're behind, your bellcow is running wild, your QB has had an erratic day, yet you suddenly decide to abandon the only thing that had worked, IMO because Mackovic outsmarted himself.

  • John Mackovic's Fullback screen in the flat ALWAYS seem to go for 10+ yards.

Also, could you guys suggest that running play we used to score on all the time with VY? You know the one. Vince would drop back to pass, and then just kinda....run it in for a TD. I liked that one.

That's because Ricky was his fullback for a year.
