Goodwin shines in Senior Bowl

  • JOJP said...

Hijacked by sunshine pumpers afraid to hear anything negative about the program. It scares them to death.

I wonder where Goodwin ends up going. He could be lethal lining up on the opposite side of the field from guys like Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, and Julio Jones/Roddy White. Or he could be one of the building blocks for Andy Reid in KC. So many options

It's not even sunshine pumpers. It's people tired of the board being a constant pissing and moaning session. Here's a positive post about Marquise Goodwin, and yet, we have to turn it into a Mack Brown bashing session. Awesome. As Bobby and the other mods have said, not every thread has to turn into a coach/program bashing session.

I'm sure he won't go to the Dallas Cowboys. He is way to good a player to even be looked at. Besides dumbass Jerry Jones does not like the Longhorns.

  • I wonder how much this helped his draft stock? Could he end up being a second or third round selection?

id prefer the pats get him. would be utilized from day one.

That could be very possible is the Pats decide to not resign Welker.

  • Only watched a little of the Senior Bowl but was Marquise being praised as shining by the announcers.
Based on the headline I thought his stats would better than 5 for 44.
I also saw the punt return catch at the 1 he almost lost that would probably get him benched rather than praised in the nfl.

Just curious what Mayock was saying. Goodwin will be our first offensive player drafted since Shipley so that's a plus.

  • It'll be good to have a Longhorn drafted again on the offensive side of the ball. Last two draft classes were embarrassing on that end.

I was pulling for Goodwin to get a serious NFL look after his Olympics went sour, and he made it happen.

The 5 catches lead all receivers I believe and he made some nice plays running back kicks. Given its the senior bowl and everyone is getting playing time the numbers are pretty good. Interesting decision on his part to take the one punt on the goal line and nearly ended up with a safety before taking it out through traffic for about 15 yards.

Just think what could have been if he was utilized properly..

He averaged 12 yards per reception at UT and 8.9 in the senior bowl.
Seems the OC of the senior bowl should be the one criticized. (Sarcasm meters on)

When Gerry Jeff and bobby set up the board, one thing I enjoyed was getting away from the juvinelle posts that make places like Shaggy and OB unreadable.

We used to have a pretty high level of football discussions.

But if we are going to critize, I'm curious why noone (but PDX, missed his comment) has pointed a finger at his OC or position coach?

Odd that Mack (who doesn't call plays nor who's main job is to design the gameplan) is critized and posters who don't shit on every comment are blasted.

As some have stated, Goodwin was a track guy running football. Don't blame him, damn proud of him and the way he represented both TEXAS and America.

Hope he does well but if he's successful in the NFL we'll regret him having run track here. .

    PS,

I'm not afraid of hearing anything but I tire quickly of revisionist history and knee jerk agendas. Give us the facts and let them fall where they may.

I have a feeling if Marquise concentrated on football only in college his career numbers would look a lot different.
Best of luck to him. Think he will do well wherever he ends up.

Clyde Gates of ACU went in the 4th round (111th pick) because of his 40 time at the combine and Gates is taller and bigger than Goodwin. I think that's probably as high as Marquise can hope for. BTW, there are some sick players that came out of ACU the last few years that are having a decent career in the NFL.

Edit: ACU players currentlly in the NFL: Bernard Scott, Johnny Knox, Daryl Richardson, Clyde Gates, and Danieal Manning. Pretty good for a small school.

He probably could, but he hasn't done it. Also, here we are, talking about his blazing speed, which makes him a much better natural fit to play outside right? Just watching him the last 4 years, he's much more Brandon Lloyd than Wes Welker to me.

No doubt that ACU has put out some stellar talent. Little factoid, but Bernard Scott is from Vernon, which is about 45 mins from where I live in WF. Dude was the truth in HS.

Completely agree. Lets simply look at this year. He skipped an entire year of football conditioning , all of spring and summer football repetitions; and then most of August leading into the season. If he had skipped the Olympics and focused on football, his senior year would have been much different. Applewhite had him in football shape for a full month leading up to the bowl game. Harsin wasn't an idiot, he would have used Goodwin much more extensively if he had purely focused on football.

Goodwin still will have to make the decision on where he wants to focus. He is still undersized for pro football, but with the restriction on contact that are being implemented in football ; his speed may win out and make him a good pay day for several years. As a long jumper, he has the ability to pick up a low to mid six figure income for a decade plus on the European track circuit and with a Olympic winning jump will push seven figures for a couple of years.

I sense that Goodwin could play a variety of spots, maybe a position that doesn't take a ton of shots, but he would be a good spot slot reciever.

There is no bashing of Mack in that statement. It's a very natural and acceptable reaction to think about what could have been when one of your graduating seniors is getting good reviews at the senior bowl, and was used sparingly in college.

I agree that the amount of posts bashing Mack can get tiresome, but it appears to me that some posters have become hyper-sensitive to any negative posts, or anything that isn't overly positive. The level of discussion is at it's highest when their are calm, rational, opposing views.
