    • We had a really good conversation around the 14:35 mark regarding the difference between Texas, and the teams they lost to this season. It went on for a good ten minutes or so. Rod and Jeff really brought some great insight.

      Mbutler

    • Rod also shared his opinion on what Texas has to do in order to have a chance to contend for a championship in the near future. The conversation started around the 27:27 mark, and then we got back into the conversation around the 31:03 mark.

    • Texas' defense held Kansas State to fifteen yards rushing on eight carries in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Kansas State had only twenty-seven yards on seven carries and Collin Klein was 0/4 with an interception. Klein's halftime numbers were 4/10 for 72 yards, and six rushes for nineteen yards and a score.

      After Kansas State's first two possessions (three-and-out on their initial drive, one yard touchdown plunge after the Nigel Malone interception--Klein's only first quarter rush), they chose to throw the ball eight times on their third possession. Kansas State only threw the ball fourteen times the ntire game. This told me that Kansas State was worried about their ability to run the ball early in the game and they may have skewed away from their original gameplan. That drive ended in an interception by Adrian Phillips.

      Kansas State was able to muster only fourty-two yards on fifteen first half carries. It was a totally different story in the second half. It was obvious they got back to their gameplan in the second half.

      Texas seemed to miss very few gap assignments in the first half. The run fits in the second half were horrible at times. Collin Klein had a ton of success running the lead draw behind Angelo Pease. As always, Collin Klein was very patient and he worked off his blockers very well. He did a great job of making individual linebackers commit to a hole before choosing where to run. Texas defended the more traditional option plays pretty well for most of the game. There were some great decisions made by Klein on some of the key conversions made when running the option.

      -- Some bad third quarter stats for the Texas defense...

      15 rushes, 114 yards (Klein 11 for 54)
      2/3 28 yards passing
      3/3 on third down conversions

      First 3Q TD drive {7 plays, 75 yards, 4:01 TOP-- drive log (Hubert 28, Klein 3, INC, Klein 10, Klein -1, Klein 4, Hubert 2TD)}

      Second 3Q TD drive {11 plays, 67 yards, 6:37 TOP-- drive log(Fake option 10 yd Thompson rec, Klein 3, Klein 14, Klein 1, Klein 6, play-action 18 yd Lockett rec on 3rd D, Hubert -1, Klein 6, Klein 6, Klein 2, Hubert 2TD)}

      In between those two drives Texas took a 17-14 lead on Malcolm Brown's two-yard touchdown run. Case McCoy's sack/fumble that Dominic Espinosa recovered on the drive following the second touchdown drive of the third quarter was the play where you could really feel all of the momentum swing to KSU's side. That was the last play of the third quarter. Less than a minute prior to that play Texas still held a 17-14 lead. Then the fourth quarter happened.

      -- Kansas State never threw the ball again after the 55-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett (12 straight rushes). That play gave KSU a 28-17 lead. At that point KSU had scored fourteen points in one-minute and thirty-three seconds of game time.

      Texas was still able to respond with a 10-play, 52-yard drive that culminated in the Nick Jordan 40-yard missed field goal which could had made it an eight-point game.

      Texas was even able to force a three-and-out immediately thereafter, but the muffed punt gave KSU the ball at the Texas 39-yard line. The rest is history.

      Collin Klein was 3/4 for 83 yards and a touchdown in the second half. Kansas State ran the ball 27 times for 165 yards and four touchdowns in the second half.

      Before I get to some more numbers I need to mention that Ryan Roberson had one of his best games of the year against KSU. I didn't want that to go unrecognized.

      Also, Bryan Harsin definitely called one of his best games of the year. I'm about 99% sure that Case checked into the playall where he threw his first interception.

      This was not a good game for the Texas offensive line in any respect, except for the screen the game.

    • The conversation at the 9:21 mark is something that all three of us have spoke about at length this season. It was a bit different with Case at quarterback this week, but still the same type of strategy.

      Mbutler

    • Tomorrow's podcast will be the first of many "state of the program" editions. The main topic for the first episode focuses on the future of the quarterback position at Texas. I feel it is one of the better podcasts we have done all season.

      We also give out our All-Big 12 awards.

      Mbutler

    • Feel free to shoot us any topic(s) you would like us to address in future podcasts.

      We are going to be addressing multiple topics regarding the future of the Texas football program and being able to look at the topic from as many perspectives possible only makes the show better.

      Thanks again to all of the listeners and fans. Y'all are what make the sports world thrive which allows us to have this platform. Jeff, Rod and I really enjoy doing the show.
