Friday night recap

The first Friday night of the 2011 Texas high school football season is in the books. As always, provides a look at scores and stats from many of the states top prospects Saturday morning.

Gray went over 200 yards in the loss to rival Stephenville

Stephenville 48, Aledo 47
Texas RB commit Johnathan Gray (Aledo) rushed for 219 yards and four touchdowns (9, 1, 11 and 58) on 27 carries in the loss. The 5-foot-10, 200-pounder now has 7,222 career-rushing yards and 139 touchdowns.

Stephenville running back and safety and Baylor commitment Aiavion Edwards rushed for 221 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries and caught two passes for 11 yards in the win.

The teams combined for 979 yards of offense.

Coppell beat Mesquite Horn 20-7
Coppell kicker and Texas commitment Nick Jordan connected on field goals of 44 and 34 yards along with both of his extra point attempts.

Southlake Carroll beat Copperas Cove 38-31
Copperas Cove athlete and Texas commit Orlando Thomas rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns (32 and 21) on 22 carries. He added 85 yards passing hitting on seven of 19 attempts.

Cove class of 2012 running back Brandon Hamilton (6-0, 200) rushed for 165 yards and two scores (19 and 77) on 19 carries. He also caught one pass for 28 yards.

Southlake Carroll class of 2013 signal caller Kenny Hill completed 32 of 44 passes for 402 yards and four touchdowns (46, 21, 5 and 13). He added 17 carries for 45 yards and touchdown (9) on the ground.

DeSoto beat up on Leander 43-3
DeSoto class of 2013 running back Dontre Wilson rushed for 45 yards and two touchdowns (1 and 10) on 12 carries. DeSoto class of 2014 athlete Desmon White (5-8, 155, 4.45) completed two of four passes for 13 yards and rushed for 50 yards on five carries. Class of 2012 running back and Air Force commitment Devin Rushing (5-9, 170, 4.5) rushed for 105 yards and three scores (49, 6 and 2) on 15 attempts.

Malcom Brown caught an 11-yard TD pass Friday night

Texas commitment and DeSoto cornerback Bryson Echols booted six extra points for the Eagles.

Mansfield beat Burleson 40-21
Mansfield class of 2013 safety prospect George Baltimore (5-10, 190, 4.6) rushed for 53 yards on five carries and completed a 24-yard pass.

No known stats on Mansfield defensive end and Texas commitment Hassan Ridgeway.

Pearland Dawson beat Clear Springs 34-14
Dawson right tackle and Texas commitment Kennedy Estelle (6-7, 308) sat out most of the game due to a sprained left ankle. He entered the game late in the third quarter after two Dawson offensive linemen left the game due to injury.

Dawson class of 2013 running back James White rushed for 16 yards on 24 carries and caught one pass for 12 yards.

Clear Springs class of 2014 quarterback Zach Cripps (6-3, 200, 4.65) completed 22 of 40 passes (2 INT’s) for 290 yards and two touchdowns (88 and 23) in his first varsity start.

Clear Springs wide receiver and Texas Tech commit Marcus Johnson hauled in five passes for 152 yards and a TD (88). He added over 100-yards in kick off returns in the first half alone.

Brenham beat Huntsville 65-16
Brenham defensive tackle and Texas commitment Malcom Brown (6-2, 293, 4.8) caught an 11-yard touchdown pass at tight end. Fellow Texas commitment Timothy Cole had numerous tackles and a fumble recovery and Texas A&M commitment Troy Green scored on a five-yard run and finished with 28 yards rushing on seven carries. Class of 2012 receiver Tremund Moore (Baylor offer) caught touchdown passes of 18, 25 and nine in the win.

Wichita Falls Rider beat Abilene Cooper 36-35
Rider class of 2013 quarterback JT Barrett (6-1, 205, 4.6) completed three of 12 passes for 28 yards and rushed for 52 yards on 11 carries. He scored the game winning two-point conversion.

Cooper quarterback and Texas Tech commitment Clayton Nicholas hit on 10 of 17 passes (2 INT’s) for 186 yards and two scores (34 and 82). Cooper class of 2014 athlete Lorenzo Joe scored on an 80-yard run, rushed for 108 yards on six carries, caught three passes for 38 yards and completed a pass for 10 yards in his first varsity game.

Port Lavaca Calhoun beat Calallen 27-7
Calhoun running back and Oklahoma commitment Daniel Brooks (5-8, 175, 4.4) rushed for 131 yards and a score (50) on nine carries.

Argyle beat Lovejoy 42-17
Argyle QB and TCU commit Austin Aune (6-2, 190) complete seven of 17 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. He added a 55-yard scoring run and finished with 52 yards on two carries.

Argyle is one of the heavy favorites to win 3A in 2011.

South Grand Prairie beat Arlington Lamar 26-24
South Grand Prairie QB and Baylor commitment Jared Johnson completed 11 of 24 passes for 209 yards and touchdown (36). The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder added 16 yards rushing on 13 carries including a nine-yard scoring run.

Arlington Martin beat Plano West 45-7
Martin class of 2013 defensive back and receiver prospect Kyle Hicks rushed for 45 yards and a TD (2) on nine carries and caught four passes for 131 yards.

To say class of 2013 wide receiver Jake Oliver got the season started well would be an understatement

For Plano West, class of 2015 quarterback Mickey Mitchell (6-7, 215) got his first varsity action going zero of four passing.

Fort Worth Nolan beat Athens 36-34
Athens athlete and Oklahoma State commitment Kendall Sanders rushed for 114 yards and three touchdowns (16, 68 and 1) on 11 carries and caught three passes for 42 yards in the loss.

Colleyville Heritage beat Duncanville 28-21
Duncanville class of 2013 wide receiver prospect Aaron Piper (5-9, 165, 4.5) caught three passes for 20 yards and a TD (3) and rushed for 12 yards on two attempts. Duncanville class of 2012 receiver and Colorado commitment Jeff Thomas (6-4, 190) caught nine passes for 93 yards.

Heritage class of 2013 quarterback Cody Thomas hit on 16 of 25 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns (35 and 21). He added a two-yard scoring run.

Richardson Pearce beat Lake Dallas 36-32
Richardson Pearce running back/receiver and Baylor commitment Corey Coleman scored on runs of 71 and 5 yards and caught a 16-yard touchdown pass.

Lake Dallas running back/receiver and Stanford commit Dontonio Jordan rushed for 108 yards and two scores (2 and 2) on 18 carries and caught three passes for 29 yards. Lake Dallas class of 2012 quarterback/athlete Dalyn Williams completed 21 of 33 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown (14) and added a five-yard scoring run.

Lancaster beat Dallas Carter 25-13
Lancaster class of 2013 athlete Demarcus Ayers (5-10, 175, 4.5) rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns (7 and 54) on five carries and caught a 47-yard touchdown pass.

Crowley beat Arlington Sam Houston 41-34
Crowley class of 2013 athlete Larry Cheeks (5-9, 165) rushed for 115 yards and two scores (7 and 5) on 27 carries along with two receptions for 36 yards and a TD (17).

Class of 2013 wide receiver Marcell Ateman turned in a big game Friday night

Dallas Jesuit beat Flower Mound 42-41
Jesuit class of 2013 wide receiver Jake Oliver (6-3, 195) caught 15 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns (14 and 31).

Flower Mound class of 2012 QB Marshall Williams hit on 12 of 21 passes for 326 yards and four touchdowns (80, 9, 72 and 74).

**Worth noting that Flower Mound receiver Chas Taylor caught five passes for a whopping 298 yards and all four touchdowns from Williams.

Dallas Kimball beat Bryan Adams 19-7
Kimball class of 2013 outside linebacker Brandon Hines (6-2, 185, 4.6) returned an interception 52 yards for a score. Kimball class of 2013 running back/athlete Teriyon Gipson (5-8, 165, 4.45) rushed for 114 yards on 13 carries and class of 2013 wide receiver Prentavious Moorehead caught one pass for 13 yards.

McKinney Boyd beat McKinney North 42-10
Boyd class of 2013 running back Bryan Driskell rushed for 167 yards and five touchdowns (5, 2, 1,2 and 7) on 29 carries.

Plano beat Garland Lakeview Centennial 56-0
Plano class of 2013 quarterback Richard Lagow (6-5, 200) hit on eight of 15 passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns (24, 37 and 6). He added a one-yard scoring run. Plano class of 2012 athlete Kevin Merrill scored a 24-yard reception, one-yard run and booted a 42-yard field goal.

Centennial class of 2013 wide receiver Jarvis Baxter (5-9, 170, 4.55) caught three passes for 40 yards.

Euless Trinity beat Tyler Lee 30-7
Tyler Lee class of 2013 running back LaQuintas Wallace rushed for 56 yards on nine carries.

Trey Williams is on his way to another 2,000 yard season

Wylie East beat North Forney 45-27
Wylie East class of 2013 receiver Marcell Ateman (6-4, 185) caught five passes for 156 yards, while fellow class of 2013 receiver Quan Jones (6-3, 190) hauled in four for 47 yards and a TD (8).

Princeton beat Van Alstyne 28-21
Princeton class of 2014 wide receiver Jakari Dillard (6-5, 185) caught four passes for 62 yards.

Sanger beat Wichita Falls Hirschi 58-6
Sanger quarterback and Tulsa commitment Dane Evans (6-0, 185) completed 16 of 23 passes (1 INT) for 363 yards and four touchdowns. He added 18 rushing yards on two attempts.

Waco La Vega beat Prosper 26-14
Prosper class of 2013 wide receiver Torii Hunter (6-1, 170, 4.55) caught six passes for 76 yards and a touchdown (11).

Spring DeKaney beat Fort Bend Marshall 60-6
DeKaney running back and Texas A&M commit Trey Williams rushed for 200 yards and four touchdowns (51, 2, 78 and 15) on 13 carries.

Addison Trinity Christian beat Houston St. Pius X 63-28
St. Pius X class of 2013 quarterback and Texas A&M commitment Kohl Stewart completed 20 of 45 passes (3 INT’s) for 330 yards and two touchdowns (40 and 18) and added 73 rushing yards and a TD (5) on nine carries.

**This game had the player of the week in Texas high school football more than likely. Trinity Christian quarterback Daniel Davidson hit on 35 of 52 passes for 545 yards and eight, count them eight, touchdowns without an interception. He threw scoring strikes of 3, 37, 70, 65, 16, 18, 14 and 78 yards.

Cypress Ranch beat Fort Bend Austin 34-21
Cypress Ranch class of 2013 running back Keith Ford (Texas A&M verbal offer) scored on runs of four, and two yards and returned a kick-off 73-yards for a score. He finished with 131 yards on 23 carries.

West Virginia QB commit Ford Childress tossed seven touchdown passes Friday night

Angleton beat Friendswood 42-28
Angleton class of 2012 athlete Ryan Jackson (5-10, 180, 4.45) rushed for 223 yards and a touchdown (65) on 15 carries and caught three passes for 33 yards and an additional score (15).

Friendswood running back and Air Force commit Jonathan Johnson rushed for 165 yards and a TD (5) on 26 carries.

Katy beat North Shore 34-6
Katy class of 2013 running back Adam Taylor (6-0, 205, 4.6) rushed for 106 yards on 20 carries. Katy class of 2012 quarterback Brooks Haack (several FBS offers) hit on 11 of 14 through the air for 183 yards and two touchdowns (24 and 38) and rushed for 2 yards and two more scores (10 and 1) on five carries.

Port Arthur Memorial beat Beaumont Central 42-14
Memorial quarterback and Baylor safety commit Terrence Singleton completed 11 of 16 passes for 261 yards and four touchdowns (77, 12, 7 and 40). Singleton added 57 yards rushing on 10 carries in the win.

Memorial running back and Arkansas commitment Nathan Holmes scored on runs of 17 and 80 yards finishing with 160 yards on 12 carries.

Houston Kinkaid beat Anahuac 63-14
Kinkaid quarterback and West Virginia commit Ford Childress (6-4, 220) completed 19 of 26 passes for 354 yards and seven touchdowns (75, 36, 1, 35, 3, 15 and 35).

Aldine Eisenhower beat Fort Bend Hightower 42-41
Hightower quarterback/athlete and Texas A&M commitment Bralon Addison completed 10 of 19 passes (1 INT) for 209 yards and three touchdowns (25, 12 and 42). He added 87 yards rushing and two scores (48 and 2) on 10 carries. Class of 2012 running back Joshua Wilhite added 77 rushing yards on 14 carries and a 90-yard kick off return for a touchdown.

Eisenhower class of 2014 running back Donald Catalon rushed for 121 yards on 14 carries.

Notre Dame commit Nicky Baratti led Klein Oak to a big win

Baytown Lee beat Baytown Sterling 28-20
Lee receiver and Texas A&M commitment Jaevon Richardson caught five passes for 49 yards.

Sterling class of 2013 receiver prospect and Texas A&M commit Jamar Gibson (6-2, 190, 4.6) played a lot of safety Friday night.

Rosenberg Terry beat LaMarque 22-21
Terry class of 2013 wide receiver and power forward Derrick Griffin (6-7, 205) caught two passes for 41 yards and a TD (33).

LaMarque running back Tim Wright rushed for 124 yards and a score (29) on eight carries. Class of 2012 receiver Brian Allen (Wyoming offer) caught five passes for 51 yards and a score (21).

Cibolo Steele beat San Antonio Madison 35-28
Steele quarterback Tommy Armstrong complete six of 11 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns (4 and 9) and rushed for 85 yards and a TD (1) on 14 carries. Steele underclassmen running backs Justin Stockton and Jordan Sterns combined to rush for 267 yards and 26 carries.

Smithson Valley beat Odessa Permian 40-27
Smithson Valley class of 2013 running back Lawrence Mattison (6-0, 235) rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns (12 and 4) on 25 carries.

East Bernard beat Stafford 40-7
East Bernard class of 2013 athlete and Texas A&M commitment Ty Slanina (5-11, 182, 4.4) completed three of five passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns (21 and 15) and rushed for 60 yards on nine carries.

Klein Oak beat A&M Consolidated 17-9
Oak quarterback and Notre Dame safety commit Nicky Baratti (6-2, 215, 4.6) hit on 10 of 22 passes for 202 yards and rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns (6 and 1) on 20 carries.

Lufkin beat John Tyler 34-31
Lufkin class of 2012 running back Jamarcus Walker (5-8, 170, 4.45) returned from a torn ACL mid-way through the 2010 season to rush for 191 yards and four touchdowns (3, 3, 1, and 10) on 33 carries. He has a verbal offer from SMU, but more will be on the way this season.

John Tyler class of 2013 wide receiver Fred Ross caught four passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns (90 and 18) and rushed for 87 yards and a score (73). Class of 2013 wide receiver Darion Flowers caught eight passes for 130 yards and class of 2013 quarterback/athlete Greg Ward (5-9, 165, 4.6) completed 18 of 26 passes for 263 yards and the two touchdowns of 90 and 18 to Ross.
