Friday Night Superlatives: Texas

With the playoffs nearing, the jockeying for potential playoff posts always comes into play about this time of the season. While number of teams took big steps toward locking up playoff spots last night, it was the record setting night for Texas wide receiver commitment and Arlington Martin kicker Ben Grogan that took center stage.

Texas commitment Jake Oliver broke Jordan Shipley's state record for career receptions last night.

Richardson Lake Highlands 20, Dallas Jesuit 17
Jesuit WR and Texas commit Jake Oliver caught 15 passes for 174 yards to become the all-time leading pass catcher in the history of the state.

Arlington Martin 47, North Crowley 7
Texas RB commitment Kyle Hicks rushed for 82 yards and 2 TD’s (23 and 4) on 12 carries, and completed two passes for 32 yards. Class of 2013 kicker Ben Grogan converted field goals of 56, 52, 52, 43, 39 and 33 yards. He’s believed to be the first kicker to make three field goals of over 50 yards in a high school game in Texas, if not nationally.

Guyer 2014 QB and Texas commit Jerrod Heard hit on six of 11 passes for 45 yards and 2 TD’s (22 and 2), and rushed for 119 yards on 11 carries. Arizona State commit Ellis Jefferson caught two passes for 29 yards and a TD (22).

Fort Worth All Saints 48, Oklahoma City Casady 7
All Saints 2014 FB and Texas commit Daniel Gresham rushed for 15 yards on three carries. TCU tight end commit Charlie Reid caught seven passes for 94 yards and 2 TD’s (25 and 18). Class of 2014 QB Foster Sawyer hit on 23 of 29 passes (1 INT) for 285 yards and 4 TD’s (25, 18, 31 and 11).

Celina 2015 QB Nathan Elliott hit on eight of 16 passes for 105 yards and a TD (17), and rushed for 40 yards and a TD (8) on eight carries.

Lancaster Ath. And Washington State commit Demarcus Ayers completed all four passes for 89 yards and 3 TD’s (38, 9 and 33), and rushed for 109 yards and 2 TD’s (59 and 50) on two carries. Class of 2014 DB Nick Harvey caught a 33 yard TD pass.

West Mesquite 2015 QB Chason Virgil completed 14 of 25 (1 INT) for 328 yards and 2 TD’s (78 and 95), and rushed for 45 yards on 10 carries.

Lincoln 2014 WR and TCU commit Emmanuel Porter caught a 32-yard TD pass. Class of 2014 Ath. Erick Neal hit on all three of his passes for 128 yards and 3 TD’s (32, 66 and 30). Class of 2014 Ath. Derrick Neal returned a kickoff 75 yards for a TD, caught a 66 yard TD and ran once for 20 yards.

East WR and Baylor commit Quan Jones caught four passes for 92 yards and 2 TD’s (24 and 30). Oklahoma State commit Marcell Ateman caught five passes for 90 yards and a TD (49). SMU tight end commit Jesse Brubaker caught one pass for six yards. Class of 2013 RB Jabari Anderson rushed for 75 yards and 2 TD’s (3 and 4) on 15 carries, and caught four passes for 55 yards.

The Colony 2014 RB Bryan Hammond rushed for 181 yards and 2 TD’s (9 and 10) on20 carries.

Arlington 2015 RB/Ath. Raymond Sheard rushed for 51 yards and a TD (22) on seven carries. TCU OLB commit Sammy Douglas returned an INT 85 yards for a score.

SLC QB and Texas A&M ommitment Kenny Hill hit on 16 of 23 passes for 294 yards and 3 TD’s (13, 29 and 32), and rushed for 74 yards and 2 TD’s (8 and 44) on 10 carries. Class of 2014 RB AJ Ezzard rushed for 74 yards and a TD (3) on 15 carries, and caught three passes for 37 yards.

Heritage QB and Oklahoma commitment Cody Thomas completed 12 of 20 passes for 239 yards and 3 TD’s (51, 12 and 34).

Cedar Hill Ath. And Texas A&M commit Laquvionte Gonzalez rushed for 129 yards and 4 TD’s (64, 28, 5 and 5) on seven carries. Texas A&M commit Quincy Adeboyejo caught six passes for 117 yards and a TD (35).

DeSoto RB/Ath. And Oregon commit Dontre Wilson rushed for 148 yards and 5 TD’s (1, 13, 1, 19 and 3) on 22 carries, and caught four passes for 92 yards and a TD 958). Class of 2014 Ath. Desmond White completed 23 of 31 passes for 274 yards and a TD (58), and rushed for 110 yards on 13 carries. Class of 2014 WR Chris Lacy caught six passes for 56 yards.

Class of 2013 QB/Ath. Austin Robinson completed 15 of 26 passes for 134 yards and 2 TD’s ()4 and 28, and rushed for 84 yards on 11 carries.
