Redshirt freshman quarterback Connor Brewer (No. 7 - middle) has decided to transfer from the University of Texas.
The Longhorns quarterback situation just got a lot more interesting for the upcoming season.
Horns247 has learned that redshirt freshman quarterback Connor Brewer has decided to transfer and, as of today, is no longer with the team. The Texas backup quarterback has announced his intentions to transfer to the coaching staff and it should be made official tomorrow from Texas.
Brewer enrolled at Texas early in January of 2012, following his senior season, but didn’t see playing time last season due to the staff redshirting him.
This season he was expected to battle true freshman Tyrone Swoopes (Whitewright, Tex.) for the backup quarterback position.
A four-star prospect originally from Paradise Valley, Ariz. (Chaparral), Brewer committed to the Longhorns in February 2011, choosing Texas over the likes of Alabama, Stanford, Miami, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas A&M, LSU, Arizona and many more.
He was the first player in Arizona history to lead his team to three consecutive state championships, throwing for 7,574 yards and 100 touchdowns along the way.
It’s yet to be made official as to where Brewer lands, but it is likely that the destination will be on the west coast.
